Sounds like we’re subsidizing the protesters via our taxes.

I saw on the news tonight that the state will be responsible for the costs.

the state will be responsible for the costs

Pretending it's not our money because it comes out of a different pocket.

There's also the fantasy that State won't somehow "claw back" matching funds, perhaps by reducing our share of the TAT. Again.

Punchline: County doesn't even know how much it has cost so far -- that $258K figure doesn't include overtime or MPD costs (Maui County made it very clear that they expect to be reimbursed by Hawaii County).

I wonder what the overall economic impact will be. Millions?

All - I just posted a news release about Namakanui, a revolutionary new instruments that will help us look at black holes with more sensitivity than ever. This is in the Mauna Kea discoveries thread. We can't get the instrument up to Mauna Kea due to the protests.

I would very much appreciate it if any discussion about it not being able to be transported up the mountain is kept here and not the discoveries thread. Thanks.

discussion about it not being able to be transported up the mountain

More lawsuits, please. Ige won't recall himself.

Can't get the new instruments up Mauna Kea to view black holes due to the fringe element protesters forcefully blocking the road? What the heck is going on, are you kidding me? This is highly illegal and unacceptable. I hope the county and state are held accountable and the observatories are compensated for all losses. I hope the observatories continue to thrive and educate the world on numerous discoveries such as black holes. Can we even fathom the advances in scientific knowledge and understanding coming from technology further revealing the mystery of black holes? This is so huge and Harry Kim has the audacity to allow a circus encampment to prevent access to the observatories on Mauna Kea? And the governor also does nothing? Why can't Hawaii clean up it's own backyard? Do we have a political structure based on favoritism and nepotism? Is everyone cousins and blood is thicker than common decency, international legal and ethical responsibilities? My Hawaiian descent friends tell me if they say anything the fallout if terrible from the protesters. They are called traitors and harrassed pretty badly. We need the feds to step in.

Mayor Kim wants to open the access road but has been refused the authority to do so by Gov Ige. Kim shouldn't be the target here, it's Ige and the state that should be held responsible.

Iron- I'm honestly more confused now than I was before looking into the 2/3rds present issue.

A two-thirds majority means that the number of votes for a proposition or candidate must equal or exceed twice the number of votes against it. If unqualified, two-thirds majority by itself always means simple two-thirds majority.

An absolute two-thirds majority means that two-thirds of the entire membership of a body or more must agree to the proposition. It is much stronger than a simple requirement.

https://ballotpedia.org/Supermajority

Common supermajorities

A majority vote, or more than half the votes cast, is a common voting basis. Instead of the basis of a majority, a supermajority can be specified using any fraction or percentage which is greater than one-half (i.e., 50%).[5] It can also be called a qualified majority.[6] Common supermajorities include three fifths (60%), two thirds (67%), and three quarters (75%).

Two-thirds vote
A two-thirds vote, when unqualified, means two-thirds or more of the votes cast.[7][8][9] This voting basis is equivalent to the number of votes in favor being at least twice the number of votes against.[10] Abstentions and absences are excluded in calculating a two-thirds vote.[8]

The two-thirds requirement can be qualified to include the entire membership of a body instead of only those present and voting, but such a requirement must be explicitly stated (such as "two-thirds of those members duly elected and sworn").[7] In this case, abstentions and absences count as votes against the proposal. Alternatively, the voting requirement could be specified as "two-thirds of those present", which has the effect of counting abstentions but not absences as votes against the proposal.[11]

For example, if an organization has 150 members and at a meeting, 30 members are present with 25 votes cast, a "two-thirds vote" would be 17. If the requirement was "two-thirds of those present", that number would be 20. "Two-thirds of the entire membership" would be 100.

Now I'm not too sure how valid ballotpedia is and I know to take wiki with a grain of salt, but those are the most detailed explanations I could find. I also looked over both links you sent and I could not find anything dealing with this in them. Did I miss something?
