Agenda for PCDP Action Committee Meeting - Rene Siracusa - 03-30-2012
The next AC mtg is scheduled for April 10th at 3 pm at the Kea'au Community Center. Although the full agenda has not yet been finalized and is still in draft form, at this point it contains the following:
1. A presentation by John Kahiapo, Education Specialist at DLNR-Aquatic Resources Division, who has been asked to give the AC information about creating a Comprehensive Management Plan (CMP) for the Wai 'Opae Marine Life Conservation District (MLCD). He will cover what the current protections are, provide a template for CMPs, recommendations from his department about items for inclusion, and describe the process for implementation of a finalized plan.
2. Paul Lackner of the Volcano Trails Connector Collaborative will describe a possible inter-subdivision route connecting Volcano with Pahoa, as a connectivity implementation project for some of the mauka subdivisions.
3. Oshi Simsarian is researching land acquisition for bathroom facilities and other needs in the Ahalanui and Poho'iki areas - and applying for funding for these acquisitions from the Public Access, Open Space and Natural Resources Preservation Commission. She will report on her findings to date.
4. Dan Taylor and Keikialoha Kekipi will introduce a letter they have drafted from the AC to the Hawaii County Council, urging them to include the $6m reappropriation for facility improvements, including restrooms, at Ahalanui and Pohoiki Beach Parks, as was mandated by the FEMA grant that purchased the land to replace the lava-covered Kalapana Beach Park.
5. Patti Pinto will report on the status of securing broadband internet service in Puna.
6. Dan Taylor will suggest the addition of a Mass Transit Plan for Puna to be placed on the AC's priority list.
Please note that all the above topics are recommendations from the PCDP that are being worked on this year by the AC. Anyone having a special interest in any of the above is invited to attend the meeting so that they can learn more and provide input.
