gardenias - JG-HPP - 05-12-2012 Hi all, we are new here. In taming the jungle of our yard, we uncovered a scraggly gardenia. It has just a few flowers and a lot of healthy growth on the branch tips. It is fairly naked inside. I need advise on pruning and fertilizer. 1 island 2 another RE: gardenias - Radiopeg - 05-12-2012 I had the same here on our lot. I first cut off all dead growth and some serious stragglers. Then I fed them quite a lot. So, a year later they are looking much better. Now I am considering more cuts to get them to fill out. I never have the heart to cut something back severely and do it all at once. Kinda like with my dogs toenails. Peggy Peace and long life RE: gardenias - Rene Siracusa - 05-15-2012 I always prune straggly ones way back leaving just one set of leaves on each branch. Dump your coffee grounds at the base as mulch - it will thrive on the acidity. |
