What's going on at Hale Nani? - TomK - 08-19-2012

I know Hale Nani Correctional Facility is not a high security place, but there have been two escapes from there in the last five days. Anyone know what's going on?

Not really "escapes", they can just walk off or not return from work release.

Thanks, DG, wondered if it was something like that.

These were escapes, as they were not authorized to leave, but this is not a secure facility, and there have been four this month, 3 have not been returned to the facility, 1 is being held in NM. All four had very little time left on their sentence

Of the 2 this week, one with "numerous burglary & 1 robbery charge" walked off the facility, and has not returned. The other was seen going over their wall ("the size of a hurdle") & tried to get into a car, but the people inside the car secured it & the guards did get him back inside the facility.

The 3rd was on extended furlough & during the required check-in took of through the kitchen & kept running & has not returned, the 4th left the facility 7/21 without authorization & has since been arrested in Albuquerque NM for identity theft.

Wow. Is this just a glitch? Four escapes in a month sounds pretty bad to me and from what Carey says there was an attempted carjacking from one of them. And if their sentences were coming to an end, why try to escape? Can't help thinking there's more to this than meets the eye.
