State I.D. - kani-lehua - 08-28-2012 Anyone waiting for their State I.D.? I have for the last 4 weeks. Temporary expires tomorrow. Called the Hilo office all day last Thursday with no answer. Called on Friday and was told that I would receive an update by 3pm that day. Didn't happen. Went to the office this past Monday and was told I would get a call back. Didn't happen until I called them again. Was told that the supervisor from O'ahu was in a meeting and there was no news. Called this morning and was given the O'ahu office #. The woman there said that my I.D. had been sent to my previous address on O'ahu. She said that they would forward it to the Hilo office and that I should have it within 2 weeks. She would not put a rush on it. Have lived on BI for almost 4 years. Called Hilo office again and was told that there are at least 160 I.Ds sitting there that were undeliverable. They will not issue another temporary I.D. I'll be traveling in October. Wonder if I'll have it by then? RE: State I.D. - Carey - 08-29-2012 You can also purchase (OK, they are expensive) the TSA TWIX ID & get it in a week or 2 at the TSA office in HIlo.... so why the HUGE delay on a state ID??? RE: State I.D. - kani-lehua - 08-29-2012 I didn't think about renewing my passport or getting a TSA TWIX ID because I've always had the State ID (no driver's license). The HNL office is blaming the ITO office for the errors. Had an appt. and took my application with new last name and current address indicated. ITO office is saying that it has to do with the central system. HNL is saying that it is ITO's fault for not verifying the address. The woman at ITO is saying that she is trying to contact ALL 160 people whose IDs are sitting there on her desk. Don't bother with the TWIC card unless you have a few extra hundred dollars and several extra months you are looking to burn. RE: State I.D. - big_island_bound - 08-30-2012 And even though your twic is issued by the TSA, it's no good as an ID to even go through airport security screening...only good if you have a job at an airport or port that requires unescorted access to certain parts RE: State I.D. - Carey - 08-30-2012 My point was the time it took to get the far more "secure" Govm't photo ID than the state ID, but TWIC is a valid TSA document that SHOULD be accepted by TSA agents... whether or not they do.,... well, that is another matter: From the TSA FAQ's: "Is TWIC an acceptable form of ID at an airport screening checkpoint? Yes, the TWIC card is an approved government issued photo ID." link: http://www.tsa.gov/what_we_do/layers/twic/twic_faqs.shtm RE: State I.D. - big_island_bound - 08-30-2012 quote: I totally agree with you there...but on my last trip to the BI, I had just gotten my TWIC the week before and just "wanted" to try it out, and was denied unless I had a state ID. So stupid, I know...I mean it's issued by the TSA for heaven's sake! It has my fingerprints, picture, and even my retina scanned into the chip...go figure. I guess I just use it for work then RE: State I.D. - Carey - 08-30-2012 I have used my TSA TWIC as my Goverm't issued photo ID at the airports in Hilo, Honolulu, Dulles, Baltimore, LAX....so.... I think it is just the agent you tried it out on... and since I did not pay for it, only had to go to the TSA office in Hilo & it took one week to get, it is nice to have.... But the TWIC is really not worth the $$ & hassle of the background check (mind you all of that was done in ONE WEEK) if you COULD/SHOULD be able to get a state ID in a reasonable time frame (remember when you could get those while you wait... just like remember when you could get a drivers license while you waited....man, are WE OLD!!!!) RE: State I.D. - big_island_bound - 08-31-2012 quote: Yes that is quite different than from the mainland. You still go down and wait in line and get your DL or ID right then here, but I had to wait about 4 weeks to get the TWIC and then the closest city to apply for and then come back and get it was in another state. I am still learning that Hawaii is like a country all it's own...oh the sacrifices you have to put up with to live in paradise[:0] |
