Tipis and platform tents - YurtGirl - 08-28-2012

Tipis and platform tents are a pretty cool option for a temporary place to stay on a bit of land while building. When you don't need them anymore for your main place to stay, you can keep them up as a wonderful getaway, guest quarters, pack 'em up and resell...

You'd want to build them on a platform to avoid rot (and way nicer that way anyway). Tipi costs can be brought down by getting some local straight poles here... Eucalyptus... Even Bamboo would work well.

We carry some really nice ones, so do lots of other places. Not trying to make a plug here, just putting out options. Here's a link to Colorado Yurts, Cimmaron Tents and Earthworks Tipis.

That is a really wonderful link. I made note of the building plans for the tent platform. Just this year we purchased a pop up camper for use here to keep Dave and me from going insane in the city. We plan on it making the trip across the pond with us in the future. We could incorporate it with one of those neat platforms.

I visited your link and this is really quite good work. I like the second tent with beautiful painting on it. I want to ask whether it is done through screen printing or not?

Lewis Dean,
No, not screen printed, they are all hand painted! You can provide a design or just give an idea and they'll do it... or you can do it yourself and they'll advise you on different kinds of paint to use.

Tipis are a great temporary option. They're also great to go camp for a week or so, very portable. A back yard hang out with a fire pit in the middle... All kinds of ideas for uses!

The link you had given had some great work. Perhaps it is little difficult, but very much helpful at the time of construction of a building.

Okay...don't get me going...these are so darn cute I could be talked into it...but Tony cannot. He's the sure-footed one of the two of us. LOL

daisyjmathew, what would be a little difficult, I'm not following? I clicked the link thinking that was a tip, but it sent me to a French realty site? I think?

Chuysmom, ha, too cute. Sure footed men have lived in tipis for centuries! Wink

Maybe I mean he thinks more "long term" than I do. We were thinking about a yurt at one point, but so many people pointed out reasons not to go in that direction.
