Ballots! Another Snafu? - Kapohocat - 10-26-2012 So I wake up to KGMB segment on how many ballots were printed for the state and 30 seconds into it the reporter goes into "COH ballots printed incorrectly". I guess the candidates are supposed to be listed in alphabetical order and ours were "random". They mentioned a 2010 study where the candidate listed first gets 5% more votes than they would otherwise. (I cant find a link to this TV segment on their website.) RE: Ballots! Another Snafu? - Kapohocat - 10-26-2012 I guess Rob and I posted close together in time - didnt see his thread so I brought the gist of it over here: Rob Tucker posted: http://www.punaweb.org/Forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=15240 "From the Trib: http://hawaiitribune-herald.com/sections/news/local-news/ballots-printed-incorrectly.html "More than one-half million Hawaii ballots were printed with the presidential candidates in no particular order, despite a state law that says all candidates must be in alphabetical order within their respective races. The state Office of Elections has downplayed the error, and officials contacted this week also don’t see it as a problem, especially for the Barack Obama-Mitt Romney race. But Hawaii County Clerk Jamae Kawauchi is seeking a legal opinion after her office was contacted by voters." So now Nago has made mistakes and Jamae Kawauchi is not blamable for this one. Oh what will Tiffany "report" or not?" I, for one, hope someone reports how this will affect us voters? Will the ballots have to be reprinted costing us money? And if they have to be reprinted, what happens to those who have already sent their ballots back in? You'll never get 100% of those voters to vote again - like the guy who voted absentee and then died this past week. Is the COH destined to be the laughing stock of the entire country? RE: Ballots! Another Snafu? - hikatz - 10-26-2012 Kapohocat, the registered voters for the County of Hawaii is around 104,000. Since they are talking about one-half a million ballots, I guess the ballots were for all the islands! http://www.khon2.com/news/local/story/Ballot-blunders-surface-for-general-election/QSn5eV5BAEulbr6OZli09g.cspx RE: Ballots! Another Snafu? - Kapohocat - 10-26-2012 Thanks for the correction, hikatz. The news this AM referred specifically to COH and then showed a pic of Jamae. |
