problem with pigs - Green - 10-31-2012
We have been having problems with wild pigs tearing up the yard mostly the lawn area, anyone have sugestions on how to get rid of them ?

Believe it or not, we have used large, plastic soda bottles or big glass juice bottles filled with water, placed a couple feet apart, and it works! Promise. (Just like with dogs)
OR...
Call a local hunter to stake 'em out and trap or/kill them for food. Pass them forward kinda thing. Hope this helps. They're brutal with a garden and yard! Ugh!

I might be able to help? I use leg snares to catch pigs, and also bowhunt. Just like the smoked meat and sausage! Let me know if you're interested.

We've been having similar trouble. Currently, we have 6-8 pigs each night. They devour the garden, tear up the lawn and injury our fruit trees. Here's what we came up with for our list of options. Purchase big dog to frighten pigs, purchase big rifle to shoot pigs, purchase electric fence to shock pigs or build strong fence to keep out pigs. After momentarily being sold on each of the above options, we finally settled on building a strong fence. It's a work in progress and materials aren't cheap. So far we've spent approx. $3,000 on materials alone (for a fence that covers only the essential portions of the property).

p.s. Keep in mind that having pig trappers over means inviting total strangers to roam around your place. Seems like a good way to set yourself up for theft.

It's a good idea to run barbed wire along ground level under the fence. It keeps them from digging under. Here's a bunch more reading about it.
