A recently-released study found that guys are better at locating parked automobiles than ladies. It found fewer men reported difficulties locating their car in a parking lot, though not by a wide margin. You should be able to get the bad credit auto loan lenders help that you need to park well.

Parked car hard to find sometimes

If one parks outside a fuel station, finding where the vehicle is parked is simple. If one's parked in a multi-story, or in a several-acre sized lot at a mall, not so much.

In the Netherlands, Utrecht University researchers completed a study that looked at gender differences in spatial memory. The study was published in “Applied Cognitive Psychology” and was released in Oct. It showed that men are much better at locating cars that are parked in a lot than women are, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Among other findings, the study, titled “Losing Your Car in the Parking Lot: Spatial Memory in the Real World” found guys were less likely to encounter issues locating their car than ladies, as 42 percent of men compared to 58 percent of women encountered such difficulties.

Mall used for study

There were 115 consumers looked at in the study, including 56 females and 59 men. They were all at a mall and were asked questions such as how close they had parked and showing where they parked their car on a map. They followed the subjects till they found their automobiles in the lot that had 431 spaces.

About 14 percent of respondents took a detour before they found their car and most of them found their car quickly. According to the Wall Street Journal, 7 percent of men and 21 percent of women had to take detours before locating their car.

Both genders used some sort of strategy, as 83 percent of female subjects and 81 percent of male subjects reported doing so. Parking close to the entrance was popular, used by 57 percent of women and 66 percent of men. Determining landmarks was more favored by women, as 38 percent of female subjects to 15 percent of males did so. Retracing steps was employed by 63 percent of women and 40 percent of men and remembering mental photos of where the vehicle was parked was used by 32 percent of men and 38 percent of women.

Mobile phone app not used ever

In the study of finding parked vehicles, about 20 percent of subjects, in both genders, reported parking in a favored spot. Among both genders, about 4 percent used a GPS gadget or mobile phone application to find their vehicles. If one just bought, say, a brand-new Fusion from the Gus Johnson dealership in Spokane, one does, after all, want to make sure it hasn't been stolen.

For those who have a hard time finding your car, it is recommended by the authors of the study to use multiple strategies.

As to which gender is better at parking, that's up in the air. One study, according to AOL Autos, by Dr. Claudia Wolfe of Ruhr University in Germany found men parked quicker and more accurately, meaning much more “inside the lines.” However, an English study found that females were slower to park but better, according to SFGate.com, website for the San Francisco Chronicle.
