Can you tell me what this bug is? - dayna - 01-26-2013 And if it's a "kill bug" or not? I usually leave most bugs alone but this one just looks scarier than the regulars! It's on my pepper plant. The links are to a public folder on my facebook account. http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc1/734561_4659531760997_1334990648_n.jpg http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/484698_4659531600993_92903298_n.jpg http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/542381_4659531881000_1920938204_n.jpg http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/32183_4659532001003_329226356_n.jpg Dayna www.E-Z-Caps.com RE: Can you tell me what this bug is? - bananahead - 01-27-2013 Kill em fast, before they turn into a hard green bug with spines.... they are sucking the joints of the plant.... dont know its name, but Im 95% sure I have them same kine now and again on my Poha Berry plants the ones I have ....if you move your hand near them they move to other side of branch, they got good eyes PS Poha and Pepper are both 'nightshades', so it makes sense they are on it... save our indigenous and endemic Hawaiian Plants... learn about them, grow them, and plant them on your property, ....instead of all that invasive non-native garbage I see in most yards... aloha RE: Can you tell me what this bug is? - bananahead - 01-27-2013 found it Antianthe expansa https://www.google.com/search?q=Antianthe+expansa&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a save our indigenous and endemic Hawaiian Plants... learn about them, grow them, and plant them on your property, ....instead of all that invasive non-native garbage I see in most yards... aloha RE: Can you tell me what this bug is? - bananahead - 01-27-2013 dont let them turn into adults, when they are hard and green they are faster and can fly too, they are hard and look like a thorn when they are still.... Bad Bad Bug IMO looks like they like all the nightshades, ie tomato, pepper, poha, eggplant, etc. http://watchingthegarden.blogspot.com/2009/05/keelback-tree-hopper.html save our indigenous and endemic Hawaiian Plants... learn about them, grow them, and plant them on your property, ....instead of all that invasive non-native garbage I see in most yards... aloha RE: Can you tell me what this bug is? - bluesboy - 01-27-2013 that is a really creepy looking bug! RE: Can you tell me what this bug is? - dayna - 01-27-2013 Bananahead do you know how to kill them? I sprayed insecticidal soap on them and not sure if that's going to do it or if I have to hand remove them? Dayna www.E-Z-Caps.com RE: Can you tell me what this bug is? - bananahead - 01-27-2013 If there is only a few I smash em, the green one I knock to ground and step on them before they fly away I also use Sevin (in a red bottle, concentrated white milky stuff, bought at Walmart) on my plants w/bugs, but I know many dont like pesticides... I usually use Sevin mainly on my hibiscus that has the blister mites dishsoap will suffocate some bugs, and neem oil will keep em and most bugs/birds/people away, but its not really a killer... save our indigenous and endemic Hawaiian Plants... learn about them, grow them, and plant them on your property, ....instead of all that invasive non-native garbage I see in most yards... aloha RE: Can you tell me what this bug is? - bananahead - 01-27-2013 this seems to be a good page on them with good description and some advice http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/tompests/msg0303171821790.html and this page has real good photos of them http://mamba.bio.uci.edu/~pjbryant/biodiv/hemipt/KeeledTreehopper.htm save our indigenous and endemic Hawaiian Plants... learn about them, grow them, and plant them on your property, ....instead of all that invasive non-native garbage I see in most yards... aloha |
