Kona to Portland - macuu222 - 09-27-2013 Alaska Airlines is starting "nonstop" service from Kona to Portland starting November 3! And if you lock in the fall fare sale by buying your ticket by October 3rd for travel through mid December its as low as $438.00 roundtrip. Lots of seats still available. Hawaiian Airlines doesn't come close to that fare or the travel time when you add on the inter island to Oahu. RE: Kona to Portland - nana valley - 09-27-2013 Thank you!! He who hoots with owls at night cannot soar with the eagles in the morning. RE: Kona to Portland - ericlp - 09-27-2013 what are the rates for parking in kona airport? Hawaiian isn't very competitive any more. RE: Kona to Portland - macuu222 - 09-27-2013 $10.00 a day...same as Hilo RE: Kona to Portland - Kelena - 09-27-2013 Hawaiian has to pay for all those new Scare Buses. RE: Kona to Portland - kalakoa - 09-28-2013 I'm still waiting for meaningful direct flights out of Hilo. Currently there's basically a two-hour "mainland tax", which you can spend in Honolulu, or on Maui, or in LAX, or by driving over to Kona -- totally your choice which one, but minimum 2 hours in any case. RE: Kona to Portland - Chunkster - 09-28-2013 Given the lack of tourist infrastructure and the small Hilo population base, I think we may be lucky to have to that single flight to LAX. More would be better, though, especially if someone other than United would do it. United still has issues long after their merger with Continental. RE: Kona to Portland - terracore - 09-29-2013 Until there is a "real" hotel for tourists to stay in on the East side, there won't be any significant air traffic from the mainland. Air Japan (or was it Japan Air)? wanted to start direct flights to Hilo from Japan but they require a 3-star hotel for their customers to stay in as part of their tour packages, and the highest rating in Hilo is 2 star. Until that changes, all the tourists will stay on the Kona side and a few of them will take buses over here for a few hours, spending very few dollars. They recently did a study and the average Chinese tourist coming to Hawaii spends $5,000-$6,000 not including air or hotel. Wouldn't it be nice if the eastern side of the island got a slice of that? People like that don't stay in run down 2 star hotels. RE: Kona to Portland - mella l - 09-30-2013 Isn't that the truth! Like being in a penalty box imo! quote: mella l Art and Science Our Future http://www.ACaliforniaSoap.etsy.com/ RE: Kona to Portland - macuu222 - 09-30-2013 I think we're lucky we still have Hilo Airport. With a island population of only 180.000 people...having two major airports within 100 miles of each other is amazing! |
