Potential HI Air Tower Closures - Carey - 03-18-2013
My interest was piqued by the Trib-Herald front page story on air tower closures (the list that was to be out today will be delayed, most likely till friday)... but I have not noticed any list of the potential HI air towers (coulda missed it) with the closure of all contract air towers...
So I checked... Hawaii faces the potential of 4 air tower closures: Kona, Kalaeloa, Luhue & Molokai.... If all of the contract air towers in the state are closed
and probably Hilo is on the list of night furloughs....just my guess... but the air field that was mentioned in the article, Midway, has WAYYY more air traffic than our Lyman field...
Why wasn't this in the article today - granted it was an AP story - but how about a side bar with the local potential closures...& any efforts our local airlines, airports or counties are doing to keep controllers in the towers...
I dunno, this does seem to have more relevance than the article made it seem, using only Illinois & NM air fields. Until I was reading the implications for Chicago's Midway - and my knowing a little about the size & traffic load of that Midway air field - I really did not have any handle on how it might effect us here....
