Help Paint Downtown Hilo - hotinhawaii - 06-01-2013

Email from HPM: Our paint vendor Benjamin Moore recently announced a promotion called “Main Street Matters.” They’re going to select 20 small town main streets to be rejuvenated with a free fresh coat of Ben Moore paint. Downtown Hilo is one of the many towns that have been nominated. We need to generate votes for Hilo to help get selected for the make-over.

You can vote once a day per computer (so you could vote once at work, and again if you have a computer at home—or smartphone).

Voting is easy:

1) go to http://www.paintwhatmatters.com

2) click on the islands of Hawaii on the map;

3) find “Hilo” on the left sidebar;

4) click on “Hilo” and then;

5) click on the “Vote Now” image to cast your vote.

The polls will be open through June 30th. In addition to voting yourself, please encourage your customers (could mean more painting and carpentry work for them), friends and family to vote too.

We will be promoting the campaign as follows:

· HPM website blog www.hpmhawaii.com/news-savings/news/vote-hilo/

· HPM Facebook www.facebook.com/hpmhawaii and Twitter www.twitter.com/hpmhawaii

· Article in Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce newsletter

· and hopefully through partnership with the Hilo Downtown Improvement Association

Aloha, Here's positive news re the vote for Hilo, mahalo to Elizabeth Hansen:

According to Benjamin Moore's Facebook as of June 13, a total of 186,000 votes were done both in US and Canada. Now that is POSITIVE!!! as not really so much if you divide it up by 136 towns (current new figure) in the running.

Ben Moore Facebook reported that as of June 7, Hilo was on the top ten town list of their "movers and shakers list" Then as of June 14, Hilo dropped off....but WE can put it back on the list!!So vote daily and get your friends to vote daily till June 30.

The results are exponential! For example, if only 20 Hilo fans vote for Hilo and send to only 10 friends each who vote and then these send to 10 more voters each who send to 10 more each and they get 10 more each ... That's 200,000 votes. Inspiring isn't it??

Please VOTE and forward this email to encourage your friends. Share by Email, Facebook, Twitter.

In case you haven't already heard about paint manufacturer Benjamin Moore's "Main Street Matters", here's the scoop:

Here's our opportunity: Benjamin Moore Paints recently announced a promotion called “Main Street Matters.” They’re selecting 20 small town main streets to be rejuvenated with a free fresh coat of Ben Moore paint. Downtown Hilo is one of the 100 small downtowns that have been nominated. So the odds are good!!

For having survived two tsunamis in the past 70 years, our town looks pretty darn good. But can you imagine how great Downtown Hilo would look with a complete brand-new paint job done all at once?

Voting is easy:

1) go to www.paintwhatmatters.com

2) click on the islands of Hawaii on the map;

3) click on “Hilo” on the left sidebar; and then,

4) click on the “Vote Now” image to cast your vote.

Mahalo in advance for your support of HILO!

Hilo is among 20 communities in the U.S. and Canada chosen via online voting, to receive a revitalization package from paint maker Benjamin Moore & Co.

Communities submitted videos, stories and impassioned pleas to paintwhatmatters.com and its Canadian counterpart, that received nearly half a million votes in the 2013 Main Street Matters campaign.

Supporters of some 130 communities rallied votes via social media.

"The incredible response is a testament to how strongly people feel for their community and we hope this movement continues to drive support for local businesses as every Main Street has a story,” said David Melancon, chief marketing officer of Benjamin Moore, in a statement.

The projects will begin over the summer and continue through early next year.

They are to be undertaken by Benjamin Moore, its longtime partner organization Make it Right, a network of independent retailers and local municipalities, small businesses, and local Chambers of Commerce, the company said.

Benjamin Moore will supply all the paint, stain and supplies for building facades, porches, railings, shutters and additional exterior building features.

Decisions on the areas to be painted will be determined jointly with town representatives and residents, and Benjamin Moore color experts will consult on color choices.
