ADDED 8/1/13

Just a reminder that First Friday in Hilo on August 2 will include an Art Walk will include a show of Art at Wailoa Center & one day exhibit, entertainment & an Art Auction at the EHCC/HCMOA -

I am excited as the 2 tiles I did were accepted into the auction...so if any of you are interested in the hook or the turtle... Friday night is the time... Downtown Hilo is the place!

old post:
Finishing up these tiles for this week... the Turtle & the Hook hopefully will be in the EHCC auction... look for them at the August First Friday EHCC fundraising event on the 2nd! (these are both porcelain tiles - 24" square on 28"+ tilebacker & have a rough wood frame, but can also be used in YOUR tile wall!)

OK, I have posted some of my past tile work, including some pieces I offered in the past for donation auctions to a few groups on island & some here have shown an interest... so... I am now posting a couple that will be up for auction in July - both are 12" square mounted on 16" tilebacker & can be framed or mounted in your wall, 16" OC stud max.

EDIT: Thank you all for your interest in " I`iwi on Ohia" that was for auction for the Friends of Volcano Park on July 4th at the Cooper Center, in Volcan. Image of the tile:

Hi Carey,

I can appreciate how you 'go nutz' and spread these designs into 4 tiles, even it just touch them.

Pretty cool.

aloha,
pog

Wow! Carey, they are beautiful! They should make some $$$!

I wonder what the cost is to ship to Alaska?

RE: Artwalk/First Friday/Art Auction Fri Aug 2 - Carey - 07-24-2013

Thank you all for the nice words, I do hope these pieces bring in something nice to help out EHCC... It is great that something I am having fun with is enjoyed by others

Rusty, Shipping costs are the biggie for finished, set items... We did hand deliver 3 one foot square pieces to the mainland in our carryon this month while visiting friends, & shipping smaller (under one foot) items could be done economically with the more dependable flat rate large Priority...but for something like these pieces, where the box would need to be around 30" square - the cost is way up there...and then there is the possibility that you would get a re-worked mosaic.... all in pieces!

I have done a turtle piece that I put on mesh & sent out to friends for their tile installer to do as a housewarming present...and it worked out nicely (one of the turtles pictured in the flickr photostream...lighter turtle on dk grey tile) so that CAN be done (boy was I nervous about that while trying to learn how to do it & sending it out for someone else to install!) Added: they did send me the surrounding tiles to cut, & I sent back the cut surrounding tiles & the meshed mosaic
