State Sen David Ige, a 27-year veteran of the Legislature and chairman of the powerful Senate Ways and Means Committee the past two years, today announced he would challenge Gov. Neil Abercrombie in the Democratic primary for governor.

Is he worthy of the seat? Are there any other candidates that may have our Puna (& Hawai'i island) interest on their platform?

So many questions, so many concerns, and frankly, unless we ask them for placement on the "agenda", we continue to be somewhat, insignificant.

Is it not time for our Puna to voice our concerns? In my opinion (which means absolutely nothing, except to me [Big Grin]), we have been shortchanged for decades, and it is time for change. We have the largest growing community in the great U.S. of A.

Now what? What do we do? How do we effect change?

The mantra of "leave Puna the way it is" does not appeal to me. At. All. If Puna (all of it) was the way I recall, yes, however, today Puna is a completely different scenerio.

How do we make certain these elected officials understand our needs?

JMO.

P.S. I did see a petition to encourage Harry Kim to run for Governor. (Occupy Hilo site) Any thoughts on that?

Easy: outspend the Oahu lobbyists.
