From 30th HPP - What? - 07-20-2007 Funny I came upon this posting today. I've been a long time resident in HPP. I just learned of a house on my street being use for this school. What????? No way! I'm sure this is not legal, I'm sure this is not within the guidelines of HPP Association rules. My quiet street is now going to see who knows how many cars twice daily? No way! Sad thing is, no one has said anything to anyone on this street. My neighbors and I will not let this happen. We got enough potholes already. No way! They gonna pave my road, again and again? I'll be talking to the Association next week and joined with my other street neighbors, I'm sure. RE: From 30th HPP - Beachboy - 07-21-2007 quote: Actually you should be able to find the good in this happening to your street/neighborhood. At least you'll know who frequents this house. What's better than a bunch of "happy little people",in a house getting an education. Sure is a lot better than an "Ice House",right next to you? RE: From 30th HPP - ericlp - 07-21-2007 Well, I doubt this is really valid for posting this here as all it does is stir up mixed feelings... I couldn't resist the post tho.... I agree with What's, who wants to remain anonymous... But, I'd never buy real estate next to a school. First off there is the noise. All the screaming and yelling between breaks and lunch... Kids gotta have fun ... but it's something I'd prefer to not hear in my living room. Next, most kids have no respect (lets not even talk about the adult). They just throw trash on the ground and if they are walking by your house have fun picking it up.... I think that whoever is trying to open up a business or school on AG lots should have the guts to approach neighbors and talk with them about plans and things... That being said maybe they can work out side walks, rubbish can placement. etc...etc... hopefully they can have the school their with agreement of the residents on the street. Tho, that can only happen if the come together to discuss the needs and hopefully come to some sort of agreement. Good Luck! RE: From 30th HPP - Lin W - 07-21-2007 I live on 30th and I went to pick up a friend who lives about eight houses down this morning and there were 15 to 20 cars parked on both sides of the road so that it was hard to get by and really hard to get into his driveway. I asked what was going on and he said apparently the house next door had rented to a charter school. He's pretty unhappy that no neighbors were notified and although it wasn't school today, it was darned noisy, whatever they were doing. We went and did our errands and when we came back there was an ambulance coming out 30th towards Paradise and a fire truck making its way ahead of us toward Maku’u — don’t know what or where their call had been but that fire truck had one heck of a time getting through those cars parked at the “school.” There must be some rules about just up and starting a school in the middle of a residential neighborhood — water (catchment), sewer (cesspool), parking (none), zoning (any?), permits and notifications (huh?) — and what about liability? Are they going to fence to keep the kids in? What if one comes onto my neighbor’s property and is injured somehow? Is he liable? From what I read on the other thread (and yes, I know not everything you read here or on the ‘net is the God’s honest truth) everything this supposed school has done so far has been just a little bit shady, unethical, and in no way pono. I think they’re in for a fight if they intend to set up shop on 30th. too soon old, too late smart Edited by - Lin W on 07/21/2007 14:32:45 RE: From 30th HPP - puna haku2 - 07-21-2007 To What? Would you prefer a halfway house to reform convicts? Puna Haku RE: From 30th HPP - Punamom - 07-21-2007 So sorry what? and Lin you are not supportive of this asset to our community.Neighbors within the required distance were notified and completely support this effort for the children. They like the idea of "20 happy little people around only 4 days a week instead of what you could end up with" (thats a quote from a neighbor). There will also be a jitney service to minimize traffic. Do you know if folks want the road paved when hpp starts the paving process? It would be nice if someone from the park that lives near one of the many schools already in hpp would comment about what its like. Rob don't your kids go to one of the schools in HPP? What's it like? Sorry for the noise, parents are just sprucing up the place so its pretty. The school also has reserved spots for any children that live on these streets that would like to go to the school. It would be lovely to see children walking to school like the old days. Please email me with any concerns you have.I would really hate to see these kids have to go to school in a tent or worse like they did at Hawaii academy of arts and sciences when they first started out. Blessings RE: From 30th HPP - What? - 07-23-2007 No it's my street, but I have lived here for 12 years and in Puna for 30 years. I think I should be able to have a say and see proper notification of a business opening on the street where I live. I've since learned that the owners of this house do not and have not ever lived on this street. So what do they care if they bring in more traffic and road wear in exchange for rent money. Schools are great. Business is great. I supported Walmart opening up, but not on my street. Come on, where's the respect. We've go a highway out there with easy access. Use it. Don't send all the cars down this cinder road. More traffic means more problems. Is there a fence on this property to keep the kids out of the road? And that's just what I want to see, middle school kids walking down my street wondering what they are going to take or vandalize tonight. I intend on investigating the rules and laws to see that this business is put where it should be, somewhere else. I don't have a bad attitude, this just rubs my the wrong way. I stand up for my family and home and believe that respect should be shown. RE: From 30th HPP - Rob Tucker - 07-23-2007 I think you are being more than a little harsh in your judgment of middle school kids. As to the rest of your points you are, of course, entitled to your opinions. I am not, as I said on another thread, very knowledgeable about the school. I just think that immediately suspecting unknown middle school kids of theft and vandalism is very unkind. As you say - where's the respect? The children in your sights are innocent and undeserving of your ire. Punaweb moderator RE: From 30th HPP - Dave M - 07-23-2007 I agree with the above statements about the harsh judgement of the kids. I think your bone of contention is with the lack of communication. Frankly I can understand your concerns about not being notified and or kept in the loop. I write this assuming that you're active in the HOA and the neighborhood programs. I just hope that that "lack of communication" doesn't jade your considerations of the true product of the project, and what might be a very good thing for some of the people living in the area. I would also like to invite you and any other neighbors you know to come over and meet us. When the school is ready and all pretty we would love for you to come take a tour. This is all very last minute when someone else backed out with their property. Its a lovely little group of children ages 6 to 8 .Its all legal and we did notify the neighbors within the required range. I know a few people are saying strange things on the punaweb but we prefer to keep wonderful things positive. Sorry for the noise I know how quiet the street is. Aloha |
