Insurance Close to the Water - Kelena - 08-01-2007 Please forgive me for going to the Punaweb Well of Wisdom with such frequence lately. I am in our debt. Do any of you have any experience with getting insurance within close proximity to the lovely blue --but treacherous-- ocean? Agents? Companies that service that area? The agent I went through expressed difficulty, especially where the dwelling was within 500 feet of the water. Really, just thinking that thatched huts may be a more practical idea than a stick and mortar house! RE: Insurance Close to the Water - missydog1 - 08-01-2007 you didn't say if it's single wall or double. Single wall is harder. I don't think I've ever been within 500 feet of the water. You should first figure out how many difficult criteria your house presents ... tsunami zone? flood zone? single wall? non-conforming? Lava zone 1 or 2? The more factors, the harder to find a company. I would call an insurance broker or two. It won't take too long to get the picture. Companies that cannot insure you are quite good about suggesting competitors here; after all, they aren't going to insure you, so nothing lost by referring you! RE: Insurance Close to the Water - Kelena - 08-02-2007 Thanks Kathy! I did find a guy -- Kevin Yee at Pyramid Insurance. The factor was proximity to water. That narrows down the companies considerably. RLI was the company I chose with Kevin's help. RE: Insurance Close to the Water - emorata - 08-02-2007 so glen, inquiring minds want to know did you finally write up deal/accepted on some home in hpp, hawaiian beaches, seaview or some other ocean frontage property in the area? waiting for the next excerpt of the buying from paradise pages. noel RE: Insurance Close to the Water - missydog1 - 08-02-2007 great, Glen, I'm glad you found a broker and a company! yes, where are you buying, can you say, or are you afraid of jinxing it? RE: Insurance Close to the Water - Kelena - 08-02-2007 I first came to Puna in October of last year. It was a detour from Kauai. I was entranced. Have been working hard to acquire a place to call my own since then. I have not hand Loni, or whomever the real estate god is, on my side. I must keep my counsel for the time being. RE: Insurance Close to the Water - emorata - 08-03-2007 prices of properties have come down for land and homes, so i'm sure you have the advantage of looking for prime pickings with better prices, but if your looking at properties with sea front/view advantages i'm sure you'll still be paying top dollar and of course there are always issues with properties closer to the ocean....rusting issues, tsuami zones, lack of water, not able to grow more vegetation.....there are trade offs with those type of properties. RE: Insurance Close to the Water - emorata - 08-03-2007 any kathyh, hows your extensive search for your future site....both of you seem to be on par with extensively scrutinizing all areas in the puna district for your perfect parcel of paradise.. did you find that home with combination of views, viable soil, affordability? by the way i sent you an email about dozers questions.... good luck noel RE: Insurance Close to the Water - Kelena - 08-03-2007 An ocean view is not very important to me. I am looking for character. I want to have a sense of place, a Hawaiian sensibility. Prices are definetely coming down. I think they will continue in that direction for some time to come as mainlanders fuel the market, and the market on the mainland is pretty darn mushy right now. I just try to remember how blessed we all are to have the dream of living in Hawai'i, and the will to make it happen. Whether you are renting by the ocean, living in a mansion in Leilani, residing in a seaview house along the red road, or comfortably ensconced in Hilo, you are blessed among the souls of the earth. Life still has its travails, but when you begin each day in such a beautiful and soulful place, you have every chance of stepping forward into a great day, every day. Make it a great day and wish me luck. RE: Insurance Close to the Water - missydog1 - 08-03-2007 hi emorata -- yes, I did find it, after 3-4 months of searching ... affordability is relative, let's just say priced reasonably, give me five more days and I can say it's absolutely done ... signed closing papers today! I didn't get your email though! Or the filter confiscatied it, try again, and put a subject header that shows its from you? Good luck, Glen ... re what was said about on the water, I was this close to living really close ... and the rust & salt scared me. |
