Recommendations? Experiences? Blinding horror stories?

I recently did some investigating into this option.

When I talked to a couple of local eye doctors, they gave me the impression that there wasn't a laser eye surgery place here, you had to fly into Honolulu. The local doctor would help make the arrangements here, then you completed the process in Oahu. I'm also interested to see what everyone's experience have been!

I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I intended to be.

Not in Hawaii at all but my Sister in Law had Lasik done and it was amazing how it transformed her from coke bottle glasses to eagle eye vision. Was well worth the expense IMHO. She has had it now for probably 7-10 years with no issues after the initial getting used to it period.

Members of the Japanese church where we attend the bimonthly food demos, highly recommend him.

I had lasik about 10 years ago in Canada for about $1,000. I started wearing glasses when I was in the 3rd Grade, but ever since the surgery I have better than 20/20 vision. BEST investment that I ever made in myself!

Dr. Rick Carpenter, with offices in the Hilo Lagoon, did my 2 cataract and 1 pterigeum surgeries - both laser. I'm very happy with him.

UGH. I recently saw Dr Carpenter. Worst eye doc visit ever. I was told I had horrible cranial swelling causing my double vision and scared half to death. And I'm fine. Plus, I waited THREE HOURS to get in for my follow up appointment. My appointment was at 1 (I got there at 12:35) and I saw him at 4....

Had one of my cataracts fixed by Dr. Carpenter with no problems and good enough vision to not need the correction restriction on my driver's license. Still good a year later. Office waits for appointments were typical and the operation itself went smoothly. Very happy with his work. I should also compliment Hilo Medical Center's Short Stay unit and its very pleasant and attentive staff. Very comparable to a mainland university's short stay unit where I had the other cataract fixed.

I like Pander's idea, Toronto would be my vote. A little old Swedish doctor did mine in the summer of 2001 or 2002. It was halfway through the year and he had already performed over 4000 operations for the year! I figured with that many prior surgeries, he probably had it down pat. Also, seeing downtown Toronto at night for the first time wasn't a half bad experience, eh!

I'd rather my husband not have to travel 4,500 miles to get eye surgery. Smile
