My Favorite Thing about PunaWeb - Guest - 12-05-2013 My favorite thing about PunaWeb is the employment opportunities tab. I think its funny the irony that its a link that doesn't work. [ ![]() RE: My Favorite Thing about PunaWeb - Carey - 12-05-2013 Actually, the whole home page is outdated, some of the reasons (if I remember correctly) were the time & updating this site to maintain current links were not felt to the worth the time & effort....& that most people are here for the forum... but this recollection is from a few years back & remains a dusty memory for me... UHH has maintained (with a few updating bumps in the road over the years) one of the most extensive career opportunities web link pages: http://career.uhh.hawaii.edu/HI_jobs_student.php RE: My Favorite Thing about PunaWeb - Guest - 12-05-2013 Mahalos! That link is really helpful, especially the link to Onewire which is perfect for my wife. great that a little joke became a new path ! RE: My Favorite Thing about PunaWeb - Kelena - 12-05-2013 Not so great that the sarcasm was directed at a volunteer effort and a labor of love that has been a great source of information for many years to many people. RE: My Favorite Thing about PunaWeb - Guest - 12-05-2013 http://happynicetimepeople.com/researchers-find-empathy-linked-childrens-understanding-sarcasm-yeah-right/ RE: My Favorite Thing about PunaWeb - peteadams - 12-05-2013 The "happy" link says that children "generally begin to recognize sarcasm between ages 6 and 8, especially familiar sarcastic praise such as “Thanks a lot!” and “Nice going!” " Obviously children are picking up on, at least, tonal inflections that indicate that the speaker is not expressing the literal truth. A lot of internet users still don't get that in commenting on text-only internet forums and blogs, there is no inflection, or anything beyond the literal words, to guide our understanding of the speaker's semantics. To just drop what could easily be considered a harsh comment without further elaboration is bad netiquette. No one can read your mind and know your intent unless you spell(!) it out. RE: My Favorite Thing about PunaWeb - Guest - 12-05-2013 I like the term bad netiquette. I would think the words "funny" and "irony" would be sufficient signs of sarcasm. RE: My Favorite Thing about PunaWeb - csgray - 12-05-2013 When new to the party it is not always a good idea to start out by criticizing the host for being out of date. Makes people think you are a hypercritical anal type, and who wants to hang out with someone like that. If that isn't how you see yourself, you might want to ask an impartial 3rd party to read what you posted and see if they see it the way you intended.
