I see online that 9ft swells are rolling into Pohoiki today and have not yet ventured down to check it out. Visiting this area and curious how the 1st and 2nd bay hold swell that big?

You need to be an experienced surfer with some local knowledge to deal with the extreme currents that a large swell brings to Pohoiki.
Talk to the lifeguards about conditions and where to go out. They are much more happy to give advice than make rescues.

Mahalo on this. Very experienced surfer but not keen on 'local knowledge' - looks like today I will leave Pohoiki to the locals.
1st and 2nd bay seem really fun on the smaller days for sure.

leeward side is getting hammered, many beaches are closed today because of high surf ie Hapuna, Pinetrees etc etc.

save our indigenous and endemic Hawaiian Plants... learn about them, grow them, and plant them on your property, ....instead of all that invasive non-native garbage I see in most yards... aloha
