OTA and CBS again - TomK - 03-08-2014

Can anyone using over the air antenna broadcasting receive CBS/KGMB? This is channel 45. Seems to have been down for about a week as far as I can tell. It's broadcasting something because I don't get a channel unavailable message but the picture is just noise.

Not the first time this has happened...

RE: OTA and CBS again - macuu222 - 03-09-2014

Nope...I can't get it either... its been down for about a week. I get a signal also...but it's just static....like some kind of interference. I only watch one show on it.... (Hawaii Five-O). And I can live without watching it. Maybe they're changing over to digital as the channel 45 I've been getting has been in analog

RE: OTA and CBS again - H22 - 03-09-2014

They haven't applied to covert 45 to digital yet. They only have until Sept 2015 to apply for digital, get it granted, and get it built and on-air. I really hope they do switch to digital-- they have the potential to have the best signal out of any serving the Hilo side.

Channel 13, which is a simulcast of 45 (or visa versa) has been on the fritz a bit lately too. Maybe it's a related problem?

RE: OTA and CBS again - H22 - 03-09-2014

BTW, converting to digital isn't the financial hardship it once was 10+ years ago-- the price has come down considerably. I think it would be a waste to not hit the Sept 2015 deadline the FCC has set for the analog TV holdouts, like 45.

There's also a movement to push the conversion deadline for stations in the category that channel 45 is in. They may be waiting to see if anything happens with that too.

RE: OTA and CBS again - okedokey - 03-09-2014

Glad to read this thread. I was about to toss out my antenna in frustration. 45 is, or was, the only channel I can get with it.

RE: OTA and CBS again - TomK - 03-09-2014

okedokey - I wouldn't throw the antenna away yet - channel 45 often goes dead, sometimes for several weeks. I don't know if it's the actual transmitter or what it receives and rebroadcasts (I suspect the latter). There was a time a couple of years ago when it broadcasted a still picture of some guy in a river for several weeks. I think he was fishing, but around that time, if memory serves, Aaron, a guy that posts here from time to time got in touch with someone with the company, and they said it was to do with some trees blocking reception. That explanation was a load of bollocks (not from you, Aaron). I think the problem lies with the signal being sent to the Big Island most of the time, but not always.

Thanks for the info. Actually makes my day. I was feeling kind of down about losing my one channel. Funny how small things can do that to you. Smile

Anybody think to call the broadcaster and ask?

If you do ... be very clear about your location and the fact that you're using an antenna.

They tend to assume that you're an Oceanic customer on Oahu.

RE: OTA and CBS again - kimo wires - 03-10-2014

I get 10 digital channels on my antenna from radio shack. (Keaau 600 ft elevation)
45 is dead right now.
