Experience with dehumidifiers? - HPPGuy - 04-01-2014

I was just wondering if anyone here has any experience with dehumidifiers. I recently had a room added on and it feels like it stays kind of damp. I seem to notice this mostly in the morning. This room is my office and I have several computers and as well as other pieces of electrical equipment in this room. I was thinking I might buy a dehumidifier. I would be interested to hear from anyone who has or has tried using one here. Does it work or is it so humid here it is a losing battle?

They work great. Try to get one that comes on automatically. It's also nice if you have a drain you can divert the water collection to. That beats emptying the bucket manually every day or two.

We have one in upper HPP and it works great. The house was 84% relative humidity when we moved in during a rainy spell and now stays below 50% when we have the dehumidifier on. We only run it at night. Be careful buying a used one as 3 out of the 4 cheap used ones we bought did not work!

Thanks for the info! What models do you guys have? I think I am going to buy one and try it out.

Another issue with dehumidifiers is their propensity for growing mold. Keep 'em maintained and they'll serve you well ~ ~ ~

We have an LG model LD650EAL from Home Depot, which works the best, although supposedly their humidity sensor to cut off automatically is not very accurate. We also have a used garage sale Whirlpool AD25SRO in the storeroom which never seems to cut off until the bucket is full, but I have it set at a high level.
