Puna home invasion earns 10 year sentence - Rob Tucker - 05-07-2014

"A 32-year-old Kona man was sentenced Tuesday in 3rd Circuit Court to 10 years in prison for his role in a Puna home invasion last year.

Jack Vaughn pleaded guilty March 7 to first-degree burglary, second-degree robbery and two counts of third-degree assault. He and two other men, all wearing masks, reportedly pulled onto the Hawaiian Paradise Park property of Claudine Prados in a pickup truck on July 12 and attacked Prados, her 9-year-old son, and the boy’s father, Clayton Mahi."

Jack Vaughn's attorney claims his client should receive a lesser sentence as he was “forthcoming about his involvement in this and took responsibility.”

However, his client also refused to give up the name of the third man involved in the burglary and assault, someone described as the mastermind of the operation. Doesn't sound very responsible to let a mastermind criminal on the loose.

10 years in prison... So we'll be hearing about this jerk being set free in another 2 years...

Maybe he moves to HPP, somewhere around 10? Grrrrrrrrr. Bring popcorn to that show.

Are you a human being, or a human doing?

Wasn't that the one where the woman threw a can of beans at them? He's going to get more than that in prison.

I really doubt that this guy will have a rough time in prison... He's a Marine with a couple of combat deployments, and the prisons are full of drugs. They even have cell phones in the prisons.

It's not what most people think it is, especially when it's the guards who bring in the contraband.
At most, this guy will end up making more criminal connections and go into a different line of criminal enterprise when he gets out.

I bet the homeowners didn't own a gun.

If they had shot him, or even shot at him, they would probably be in worse trouble than he ended up in.

Oneself -
This was the 'pork & beans' robbery. As Chunkster noted, if they had a gun and used it the victims would most likely be in jail, at least for a night.
Instead, the woman defended herself with a can of pork & beans. She threw it at the burglars as they left. It didn't hit any of them, but it landed in the back of their pickup truck. They were pulled over a little while later, the officer noticed the can of pork & beans, and they were promptly arrested. No CSI needed, just a little Big Island P&B.

So you all prefer these criminals roaming around your homes, instead of in a pine box ?

If so, I will try to send out invite cards to you all, so you can attend the funeral and send flowers to anyone who invades my home Smile
