Radar Tower Near Maku'u Market - wjbillock - 09-09-2007 Does anyone know what the radar tower, just mauka of the Maku'u Market, is for? "What? Me Worry?" - Alfred E. Nueman RE: Radar Tower Near Maku'u Market - janeadams - 09-09-2007 No expert here, but have heard from one local pilot (Jack Lockwood fo Volcano) about it. It's an FAA beacon, and every aircraft navigating around this part of the island uses it to establish position. Speaking as a parent of a pilot, a beacon is goooood thing! Jane RE: Radar Tower Near Maku'u Market - Aaron S - 09-09-2007 Its a FAA ATC Beacon. Its on DHHL leased land which the FAA pays 28,800 a year lease rent for. The lease has reopening on 2009 and comes up for renewal in 2015. http://hawaii.gov/dhhl/publications/annual-reports/2006%20Annual%20Report.pdf/ |
