A 69-year-old man died this afternoon in a head-on collision on Highway 11 in Mountain View.
Police said a 1995 Ford pickup truck driven by a 23-year-old Keaau man crossed the center line and struck a 2002 Ford sedan.
The 69-year-old victim, who has not been identified, was driving the sedan.
His passenger, a 64-year-old Mountain View woman, was transported to Hilo Medical Center.
Police said the crash occurred at about 1:45 p.m. near the 13-mile marker in Mountain View.
Four men — ages 19, 20, 21 and 22 — who were passengers in the pickup were treated for injuries and released.
An investigation of negligent homicide and driving without a license or insurance has been initiated in the collision.
Police said it was not known whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
