Party Rooster - Guest - 06-24-2014

Ok guys, you may have read me talking bout the party rooster that comes in my yard and is roosting at 2amm and 3am every night.

Ive decided my sleep is too important and I have to do something.

Before I shoot his ass, anyone have any better suggestions ?

I was thinking an Air Soft Rifle and just put one in him next time I see him, which is like almost daily...

Trap and release -- into a nicer neighborhood.

I think I might just end up catching all the hens ?

There is a bunch of roosters here, which I don't mind, its just the one that comes in the yard, he is the loudest and for some reason has no sense of time.

Just turn the hens loose until you catch the rooster. We put scratch in the trap, latch the door open for a few days so they get used to running in and out, and then start catching chickens until we get the rooster. We got the trap at the Humane society, you do have to give a hefty deposit too.

He is probably moving into that tree in late afternoon/early evening, if the branches are low enough you can just catch him at night. They hate to move around at night.

If you do have to shoot the rooster, an air rifle, with good power, and zero'd in for, say, 10-15 yards, can do it. I had to shoot one about a year ago. He was coming onto our property and trying to lure our hens away. I was unable to catch him (which was my first choice). I took him humanely with a .177 Crosman CO2 air rifle. One shot stop.

i read that you just moved here . maybe somebody owns the rooster, dosent seem like a good way to start out in hawaii , killing an animal . sad almost .

Please try to trap the rooster and relocate it or give it to somebody who will humanely kill and eat it.

Approach rooster calmly, speak softly and reason with him about his behavior.

But first you have to get his attention.

I don't wish sufferation to anyone or anything, but not being able to sleep is not acceptable. The other roosters are fine, its just the one party rooster...

What do you mean run the other chickens off ? When I see him its not for too often before he bails.

Do you know the tree where he is roosting? If you can find the tree and have a ladder, you should be able to grab him. That's what I did when a stray rooster wandered into my yard and started partying with my hens. I waited til he roosted, put up a ladder and grabbed him and put him in a portable kennel. Wear gloves and throw a towel over him. I took him to the humane society, where I assume they humanely euthanized him.
