Hilo Bay Fissle 2014 - kander - 07-04-2014

Ok, where did 30K worth of fireworks go? 20 shells does not qualify for a 4th celebration. I would have expected better at a High school football game.

The newspaper did a wonderful job of making it sound exciting.

"This year’s “Hilo Bay Blast 2014” will celebrate Independence Day with the traditional Fourth of July Fireworks exhibition over Hilo Bay Friday at 8 p.m.?

I stayed home and watched the (free) broadcast events on tv. One was in DC and one was in NY. Both featured great concerts and multi camera displays of the fireworks shows. DC had a beautiful sunset, but NY's show was hands down better. It must have been. A solid 30 minutes of the best fireworks I've ever seen. 3 matched sets in the east river, plus the entire Brooklyn Bridge had fountains hoping in all directions. Sometimes looking like a volcano, and other times looking like a waterfall.

I saw some pretty good home fireworks in various directions.

The real show, however, was the sunset. We were almost moved to tears with that spectacle. Couldn't believe that was even possible.

The cost to insure the event was $15,000; state, county and city permits totaled $5000. Security was another $5,000. The fireworks company charged $4,500 to put the show on and they charged $500 for the 20 shells they fired into the bay.

Yes! Blues...the sunset was gorgeous!

I saw a FB post that said there was a malfunction, and the show had to be cancled for safety reasons.

The best sunset I've seen in a long time! [Smile]

Friend of mine put the west side version of sunset on her Facebook, and it was even more incredible, blazing violet, but I was pretty darn happy with it except I was driving while my jaw was dropping at the color.

It was an amazing sunset in Lahaina too. I took a few photos and iphone video of the Lahaina fireworks I'll upload when we get back to the Big Island on Monday.
