Vote early! - csgray - 08-04-2014 In view of the impending storm I urge everyone to PLEASE vote early, the early polling places will be open through Thursday. I don't care what party you belong to, who you want to vote for, or what your position is on GMOs, but please make sure you protect your right to vote by exercising that right before Iselle hits the fan. If this one just melts away you can go to the beach on Saturday instead of voting, but if it is a big damaging storm your vote will still count if you vote early. Carol RE: Vote early! - lavalava - 08-04-2014 Done and done. RE: Vote early! - missydog1 - 08-04-2014 I don't disagree at all, but Abercrombie said on the news that if the storm interferes with voting there is a protocol to be followed, one that already exists and binds him. He'll take it step by step. My impression was that the voting would be extended to allow people to vote. There is no obligation to vote early. People have a right to vote on the day of the election if they want to, and if nature interferes, then an adjustment can be made by officials. ETA - said they have to put a list together of polling places that double as emergency shelters. RE: Vote early! - csgray - 08-05-2014 But why beat your way through rain and wind and downed power lines if you don't have to? It just seems to me that being able to check voting of your list, along with stocking up on food and water, would be a good thing. Carol I know you feel a sense of urgency for people to vote early yet the issue of the Tiffany Edwards Hunt's voter registration fraud has to get out so the voters know that voting for Tiffany will only lead to allegations, litigation and determinations that will hopefully lead to her removal should she get in. That is if she gets fifty percent plus one. RE: Vote early! - missydog1 - 08-05-2014 Carol, of course it is better to vote in nice conditions. Unfortunately the early voting areas may not always be convenient, If we live out if town. For myself, I doubt I can get to the Hilo Lagoon Center today and am doing storm prep. Safety first. I don't disagree with your message at all if it works. I was just saying that if iur election places are inaccessible Saturday, or dangerous to access, that the election is likely to get postponed and extended, from what the governor said. For example, I don't think it will be considered a legal election if polling places are closed on the official day. Voting that is set to occur at schools that double as centers may not be possible, but they can't say the people who were going to use their regular polling places are SOL for not voting early. Think of the small problems last election and how a few races were almost considered invalid just because of confusions on where to go. RE: Vote early! - Mendo - 08-05-2014 I also urge everyone (everyone who agrees with me!) to vote early. Saturday may be a very messy day, with the 2nd of 2 storms arriving. RE: Vote early! - csgray - 08-05-2014 Sativa, That is only one race that only a small percentage of the voters are even voting on. Anyone reading this thread has had plenty of opportunity to read what you have to say on that race and form an opinion. I was just trying to urge people who can to take the opportunity to vote in SAFE conditions. I am sort of blown away that you and Kathy both seem to think that I am offering bad advice here. It is free advice, people can take it or ignore, but my advice is certainly not a plot to undermine the spread of information on one county council race. Carol RE: Vote early! - missydog1 - 08-05-2014 Carol, I'm not saying you're offering bad advice! I started out my post saying I was not disagreeing. That's my way of saying its good advice. I only said that people shouldn't freak out if they can't get to the not at all convenient walk in voting. If it gets that bad, most likely there will be a second chance. If I get a chance to vote early I will. Maybe tomorrow. Is there convenient early voting in Puna? There isn't on Hamakua side. I love my regular polling place because my good friend volunteers and I see all people I know and I don't even have to get in the highway to her there. I loathe going to the Lagoon Center and the parking sucks. That's just me, we all have our choices to weigh. Some people don't get off work before it closes. All I'm saying is the governor announced that if the conditions are really bad on Saturday that the election can be postponed as there is already a protocol for when a disaster interferes with an election, which seemed like good info to share. RE: Vote early! - opihikao - 08-05-2014 Kathy H., the place to early vote in Hilo is not at that Lagoon Center (parking does suck!). It's at the Aupuni Center: http://www.hawaiicounty.gov/elections-walk-in-voting/ In Hilo, early walk-in voting is available at the Aupuni Center Conference Room between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Walk-In Locations: Hilo: COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I AUPUNI CENTER, Conference Room 101 Pauahi St., Suite 1 Hilo, HI 96720 Hours: Monday - Saturday (8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.) Click Here for Map (*Map at link) |
