We talked to a friend up in Glenwood/Volcano area and they are fine, just helping neighbors with downed trees.

I am in Maui at the moment but talked to family and some neighbors and evidently there are quite a few trees down in fern and hawaiian acres including a lady with a tree on top of her car. Looks like Im coming home to cut trees up.

I heard from one friend in Eden Roc. Power out, a few trees down on the lot, nothing hit the house or the car, no damage to report. Haven't heard about the roads yet. I suspect Upper Puna got through with a bit less problem because there are fewer invasive (Albezia) towering over the roads.

Vancouver, were they able to get out of the Roc today? I tried to come check on my place this morning, but Kahikopele was two or three feet under water by the farm lots. I'm hoping the wind didn't nail our road too bad. Glad to hear your friend and place made it ok.

8:50pm Our home was hit badly by downed ohia tree's.Been chainsawing all day.

Have our own power, have fridge, stove and hot water for showers.
More chainsawing tomorrow to clear road out, mostly ancient ohia 3 to 5 feet at the base.A few eucalyptus down, robusta And rainbows.
Robusta a bugga dem,but rainbow kind,easy er.
landline was out as was slow dial up internet, but for now up n running.
Family in HA says plenty tree's down by 4 n E
,power lines and phone lines down.
Friend in ainaloa says their home is ok but a neighbors home flattened by albezia and no insurance, but main thing they are fine.Another neighbor says an aunty in HPP home totaled by 3 large albezia falling on their home.
Can not verify though, just hearing via coconut wireless.

OH, this sounds terrible. I was waiting for someone to mention the lack of insurance here. So many people have built their own homes, and lack hurricane insurance, or have paid cash and not gotten it. This is what I am worried about down in Nanawale as well.

I just got back to Eden Roc a couple of hours ago. Drove right in, didn't notice any signs of devastation. I am off grid and my roof and panels survived so I have the same power as before, not much but enough.

Speaking only of my own experience it is almost like nothing happened here. I expected some downed trees, especially old dead snags of which there are many on and around my property, but all still stand. I left an empty cardboard box by the front door and it is still there, albeit heavily ballasted by rain.
