Well isn't that special.... - EightFingers - 08-28-2014 Cleaning windows on my house and noticed the bathroom vent fan cover on the outside was a little brittle. I snapped off the little shutter-like things and discovered that the wood was solid behind it. There was no hole for the bathroom fan to exhaust outside! The cover was purely "decorative". So now I'm going to have to tear into the ceiling and see what is going on up there and run the ductwork properly [ ![]() ![]() My advice is keep an eye on your builders and assume everything is suspect. RE: Well isn't that special.... - HI_Someday - 08-28-2014 So you've been venting hot, moist air into your ceiling? In a non-humid environment you'd have some mold issues, in Puna I would be afraid there would be some kind of mold mutant life form incubating in there! Yikes. Is this a new house (where you can get things fixed by the builder)? Good luck. RE: Well isn't that special.... - EightFingers - 08-28-2014 The house is nine years old and the builder is still in business. Tempted to give him a call. RE: Well isn't that special.... - kalakoa - 08-29-2014 There was no hole for the bathroom fan to exhaust outside! Permitted construction by a licensed contractor with final County inspection, right? RE: Well isn't that special.... - Royall - 08-29-2014 Amazing but not surprised.. When I built my house, I didn't have one inspector climb up, crawl under, or do anything strenuous to do an inspection. Just "line of sight" from just inside the door, more or less..... RE: Well isn't that special.... - Tink - 08-29-2014 Call him on it and request he fix it for free, as well as any damage it may have caused (check yourself, or have a neutral party inspect it). If he balks, yelp, and social media reviews gets the word out quick that he cuts corners.
