Royal, you are the bee guy - dayna - 08-30-2014 Do you (or anyone else) know what this is? Looks kinda like a bee, but I'm not sure. I'm also not sure if it is going to cause damage or if I can let it bee (hehe). I filmed it putting a flower petal in the hole in the sill of my window. It's carried several in there now so far from the glory bush? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y39ZAokJWiY Dayna http://www.FarmingAloha.com www.E-Z-Caps.com RE: Royal, you are the bee guy - rocketman - 08-30-2014 That is a leaf cutter bee, have them at my place in Shores Rec. She is building a nest in there. RE: Royal, you are the bee guy - dayna - 08-30-2014 I like bees! Do you know if they damage the vinyl window sil? I can't imagine how, but I have no idea. I did google this information and found it very interesting! http://www.buzzaboutbees.net/leafcutter-bee.html RE: Royal, you are the bee guy - rocketman - 08-30-2014 I pulled into my driveway and wondered why there was a bright red flower petal flying around my garage door. Always amazed at the things I see here! RE: Royal, you are the bee guy - Midnight Rambler - 08-31-2014 The species is probably Megachile diligens, though there are several others that look similar. There are eight species of leafcutter bees in Hawaii, all introduced; M. diligens is native to the South Pacific and may have been a pre-contact introduction, since they nest in wood. Most aren't very commonly seen though. |
