Starting to smell that gunpowder smell - Rob Tucker - 09-19-2014

Starting to get the smell of hot lava in Pahoa this afternoon...

Noticed it here also in HPP.

I woke up to burning wood at 3 AM. Then I realized it was the lava flow, and went back to sleep! LOL.
I will wait till the last minute..

Are you guys sure that you're not just smelling another PGV release?

RE: Starting to smell that gunpowder smell - leilanidude - 09-19-2014

Absolutely sure it isn't PGV.

I do not know. There was a strong smell of burning something, that woke me up.
My bed is by the window, close to the ocean, in WaaWaa.
I just thought it was the lava, and since my smoke alarms did not go off, then back to bed with a pillow over my nose.
It was nasty smell.

I was in Pahoa last night and smelled it, not too strong in early evening but noticeable. I have a sensitive nose to fire because I have been caught in fires on a few occasions, so any whiff of it and I'm on alert, and also my throat is acting up, irritated.

I'm so sorry this is happening.

Kathy, I have the same sensitive smell of sense. ONLY, when we know it is different!
That was the smell that woke me up!
Are we going to need masks to breath while here?
Who is passing them out!
The masks yeah?

boy, it's a real concern.
I'm glad there's someone else in the crowd who gets it about the sensitive nose. I'm often the only one in the room to smell burning, and also to feel earthquakes starting up before others.

I remember when Loma Prieta happened I could feel it coming and was looking around for a sign in other faces in this big market, but everyone was unconcerned -- until about ten seconds later when all hell broke loose.

So what will happen when the trades kick back in? Which area is going to get the fumes then? My dread is that the winter is the most voggy time for East Hawaii and it might be bad from this flow too.
