RE: TMT groundbreaking - live - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 10-07-2014 You can't improve some people's vision, no matter what size the lenses. RE: TMT groundbreaking - live - opihikao - 10-07-2014 FYI: (*Snipped - More at link) http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/story/26729950/hawaii-telescope-groundbreaking-blessing-delayed HONOLULU (AP) - A groundbreaking and Hawaiian blessing ceremony for a giant telescope atop Mauna Kea is delayed because of people blocking access to the site. The webcast host for the event says a caravan of buses carrying attendees is delayed because of a group of people blocking the way up to the mountain's summit. The event has been delayed for more than hour. Tuesday's event launches construction to build one of the world's largest telescopes. The groundbreaking for the $1.4 billion Thirty Meter Telescope is being shown via a live-stream webcast because of limited access to the construction site, which is in an area with harsh physical conditions. Some people oppose building the telescope in a place held sacred by Native Hawaiians. Some of them planned to protest the groundbreaking. RE: TMT groundbreaking - live - TomK - 10-07-2014 Thanks, Opihikao. The video stream wasn't private earlier, but they stopped the broadcast and guess after that made the page private. RE: TMT groundbreaking - live - PunaMauka2 - 10-07-2014 TomK, i must say, your patience is most admirable. --------- ha, good one, PrimalEdge. RE: TMT groundbreaking - live - opihikao - 10-07-2014 Agreed, PM2. He is an Englishman, with manners, too. Some people here could take some lessons from our Mr. Tom. Back to topic, we have been watching this TMT project evolve for years. Middle ground was professed to have been found, although some do not agree with the conclusion of negotiations. It will go ahead, and our keiki and mo'opuna will enjoy some of the benefits of this project. Hopefully, those who are opposed will find tolerance somehow, and not continue to divide a community again. JMO. RE: TMT groundbreaking - live - PunaMauka2 - 10-07-2014 opihikao, sounds good, though being an Englishman or any other ethnic identity really is beside the point. not a factor to be overly fixated on or get caught up in stereotypes about. i'm sure you would agree there are many other, much more telling factors to judge individual character by. aloha. RE: TMT groundbreaking - live - TomK - 10-07-2014 The disruption is already making news around the world: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/wires/ap/article-2784391/Protesters-halt-Hawaii-telescope-groundbreaking.html RE: TMT groundbreaking - live - opihikao - 10-07-2014 Mr. Tom, already? Wow. Too much. Mahalo. This is why companies hesitate coming here to do business. This was a long time coming, and was such a long battle. I trust the terms and conditions agreed to will be followed, so that we can all move forward. PM2, whatever. Fixated? Please, too old for that. Not getting into a debate about each bloody statement or reference made. You're right. I believe it takes all kinds to make this world go 'round. [] JMO. |
