Ana's true path vs what news is saying... - islandlvng - 10-16-2014

I'm not saying anyone is lying. I am just questioning how honest our news crews are being with us.

This link shows it going straight for our island. It's from NOAA. Credible information I believe.

Last news report had it going way south. Somethings not right here. Maybe I am just tired and not looking at this clearly. It looks like a gut punch to me.

Anyone else have thoughts on this path being shown by NOAA?

I invite any of the more scientific minds among us to weight in, but here's my guess. The animation stops at 10 am UTC (Coordinated Universal Time - don't ask me why the abbreviation doesn't match the spelled out version...), which I believe is 10 hours ahead of Hawaii time. If I'm right (and I wouldn't bet my lunch money on this...) that would mean this loop reflects conditions just before midnight Wednesday. The path has changed significantly since then.

From what I can tell the centre of the storm is currently on track to pass well south of the island. What might be misleading is the amount of convection north of the storm's centre which makes it look as though it's heading more north than you'd think. The area of convection is not necessarily the centre of the storm.

Just check Harryd's server for updated info. Looks very likely the bulk will pass South/West of the Island. http://harrysserver.com/ana/

Guy Hagi of HNN is all about severe weather, as anyone knows who watches him. He never underplays stuff like this, always gives dire warnings if any chance.
He thinks Oahu and Kaua'i might get some problems, but doesn't think we're getting the direct hit.

It could change, and surprise everyone, but to the question of are the experts lying to us or fudging it, I don't think so.

I see what you mean, some ofthe animations from last night made it look like it was coming straight for us.

Looking out my window this morning and seeing partly cloudy skies to the east....my guess is that it missed us completely but the forecasters don't want to loose face. And unless there are thunderstorms....my golf game this afternoon is still on! [Big Grin]

Guy Hagi of HNN is all about severe weather, as anyone knows who watches him.

Guy is all about standing in front of the Big Island while he talks about surf on Oahu.

EXACTLY. thirty seconds of weather always standing in front of Big Island and triple that on the surf report for Oahu.

Storm is almost 280 miles directly below us at this time. (per 5 Am report).

At this time in Kapoho - no wind at all - muggy. and rain has stopped for the moment. Can barely hear the waves but it is a incoming tide right now (high at 11:00 am of 2.1' which is not a very big tide). Surge predicted for 1-2' per news this AM.

Just watching newscaster down at So Point. Water is calm and light breeze behind her. They, I swear, are hoping for big drama.

Waiting for harryd to weigh in as he seems to be our best source for disseminating info.

it will be a direct hit .... only IF you consider the whole width of the (satellite) visible storm, ie like 8 times the width of the Big island
heck ,, it may hit all 8 main islands at once with that logic.. OMG!

the key is 'direct hit from eye of the storm'

its obvious now, this pseudo wannabee hurricane will pass many miles south of south point

PS good point kalakoa, so true!
