HMSA and MediCare - PauHana - 10-31-2014

What are people doing now the free HMSA Akamai Advantage is pau.
The new premium plans are painful.

RE: HMSA and MediCare - punaticbychoice - 10-31-2014

Most don't understand the difference between health CARE and the parasitic middlemen of
private health INSURANCE.
Medicare for all, womb to tomb.

RE: HMSA and MediCare - tada - 10-31-2014

HMSA cancelled my mom so good thing she had appointment with the doc. So could ask him. He said just basic medicare gotta pay 20% so might be ok if you're healthy. He didn't like Humana because gotta get approval for everything. Alohacare didn't list our doc in their network. So went on ehealth and enquired about UNC. So signed up with UNC by phone so see how that works out. There was a UNC rep who had a booth at the market but he was busy.

Are we talking 65+ ?
If so, are we talking regular Medicare A and B with Medigap insurance and separate part D?
Or are we talking about "Medicare Advantage" which is private insurance?
Since "networks" are mentioned, it sounds like a "Medicare Advantage" plan.

Many, if not all Medicare Advantage plans required changes mandated by ObamaCare.
Compliance was reported rather piecemeal and at various points in time.

I think ACA (Obamacare) is a poor, overly complicated and expensive program.
I call it "HICRA" the "Health Insurance Company Relief Act".

RE: HMSA and MediCare - tada - 11-01-2014

scuuze we signed up with United Healthcare for part C thru ehealth-

http://www.ehealthinsurance.com/?allid=Goo38194&sid=svf6FvTpg%7c44750186404%7c

Stil subject subject to approval. If it don't work out can fall back with HMSA but they want $126/month now. If we get barrage of mail from AARP might be a good sign- more fuel for the wood stove at least.

RE: HMSA and MediCare - punaticbychoice - 11-01-2014

Part C is private "Medicare Advantage".
You are stuck with a "narrow network" of providers,
and you would have been better off with original Medicare
and supplementary "Medigap".
Same price you mention, any doctor, no network restrictions; and with (plan F) and nothing to pay; deductibles or co-pays.
Doctor of your choice too.

I have not a helpful response. Just commiseration. For those who are sick and alone this mess must be about impossible to sort out. What happens to them?

RE: HMSA and MediCare - punaticbychoice - 11-01-2014

As to what happens- where was everyone in 2009 when we got the current
private insurance based system?
I remember being told by politicians here (Hawaii) "shut up and smile- this (ACA/Obamacare) is what "they" will allow people to have."
After all, Obama got 15 million in campaign contributions from the health insurance industry in 2008.
