Thanskgiving - opihikao - 11-20-2014 So appropriate that next week is Thanksgiving. So many things to be thankful for, especially given the challenges we all have faced recently. From the storms, to the lava flow, to our respective lives and our own kuleana. Taking a moment to be thankful for our community and loved ones, all of which enhance our lives. Mahalo to all of you, and may everyone enjoy a safe Thanksgiving holiday. Mahalo ke Akua. ~Desiderata~ Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let not this blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore, be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams; it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy. ~ Max Ehrmann, 1927 JMO. RE: Thanskgiving - SBH - 11-20-2014 Opihikao for Mayor! Mahalo nui loa. Yes, we have much to be thankful for. Thankful that the mission with mo'opuna (and ALL their friends!) includes laundry, cooking, scolding, guiding, scrubbing, reading, lecturing, decorating, baking, and grooming! Charm school every other Saturday for the girls for a couple hours! OMG! [:0] Happy Thanksgiving, SBH, and all. Positive thoughts of *chocolates for the holidays! JMO. ETA: * See's or Frango Mints [ ![]() RE: Thanskgiving - Punatic007 - 11-20-2014 If the front stays cooled and the flow goes to uninhabited areas as she has been doing for many years, I think this will be a profound Thanksgiving for all of us in Puna. Aloha! RE: Thanskgiving - Punatic007 - 11-25-2014 Pahoated, all history is wrought with inequities. Attempting to right all the wrongs would be futile. I have rarely been as impressed as I was visiting with a nomadic Mongolian chief. His people have lost their hunting grounds and can no longer be nomadic yet were simply seeking the legal right to residency and work in Thailand. I asked him how he felt about all the changes and inequities since his tribes presence predated everyone else in the area. He responded "The world changes and all we seek is the opportunities to change with it, to adapt like everyone else." He's an amazingly peaceful happy person, no sense of entitlement or blame. RE: Thanskgiving - KUIU - 11-25-2014 Any low cost or free Thanksgiving meals in Puna for those living alone with no invites to dinner? Anyone know of any? RE: Thanskgiving - snorkle - 11-25-2014 The Aloha Ohana Cafe(not sure of the name; used to be KFC in Pahoa)is looking for turkey donations to feed whomever comes on Thursday. RE: Thanskgiving - Rob Tucker - 11-25-2014 I have confirmed that Aloha Lehua Café is having such a Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow, Wednesday, at 4:30 pm. Aloha Lehua Café is located at the Woodland Shopping Center in Pahoa. They occupy the old KFC location. The Aloha Lehua Café has great food. I eat there fairly often. FYI they will also be open for business as a restaurant on Thanksgiving Day from 7:30 am to 8 pm. RE: Thanskgiving - Anxious Messiah - 11-25-2014 quote: Joseph Gribble: How long are you going to be in Arizona, Mr Redcorn? John Redcorn: [an American Indian] Just for Thanksgiving weekend. Dale Gribble: Do your people even celebrate Thanksgiving? John Redcorn: We did. Once. _________________________________________ Don't speak unless you can improve on the silence. RE: Thanskgiving - leilaniguy - 11-25-2014 I'm thankful for anything, a few weeks ago there was nothing to look foreward to, now we seem to have at least to Christmas. Maybe. |
