Today I just heard of 3 thefts in HPP OVER Thanksgiving. What is going on? On 31, 23 and 20 ave.

Unfortunately no one around here is very concerned over the high rate of theft and burglaries in HPP or anywhere around here, most are much to busy trying to save face for Puna on Trip Advisor. That's much more important, one must have their priorities straight. Interesting to live somewhere you have to worry about your home when you leave for work. But that's Puna...

Disturbing to have these rash of burglaries in PP or anywhere in Puna for that matter. From what I understand thefts, burglaries, and or home invasion's have been on the decline since the June 27th flow began. Maybe some 3-4 hundred have been reported from within puna since the flow began. Not sure how many have gone UN-reported or how many have resulted in arrests or items being returned?.
Paradise Park has always been a hot spot for thieves especially this time of year. The outer island boys may be in the area as well. They come from other islands to rob from the poor and unknown. Yet if the lava flow continues and the new laws like 111 are expanded in time, money, and effort it won't be long until the law takes away the Puna peoples guns too. The best ways in avoiding being robbed is to not own much, or at least don't show it off by leaving your toys outside or in the open. maybe some kind of tracking beacon could be placed on your larger valuables like mowers, tv's, musical instruments, fishing gear, ect.
If cameras were placed at intersections or corners of every street in PP and folks had home security cameras well then you could match times, vehicles, and or faces much better. Yet not many want more cameras in their subdivisions even if our county or communities could afford them. Let's hope a few more thieves do get caught or shot in the coming weeks or months and these new laws can be upheld in court with long visits to jail and stiff fines for these criminals.

Why Paradise Park is a hot spot for burglaries, as Seeb pointed out, it's where the most people live.

I have been very concerned for a long time and have done my best to fire up our elected officials on the subject of property crime. For about four years now they all seem disinterested in addressing burglary.

Do council people still have discretionary funds. Maybe a dedicated detective position to work B&E in puna or a bonus to the patrol cops for felony burglary convictions

Good idea. And while they are at it, make sure the much higher penalties for thefts during the emergency proclamation sends them away for a long time. Maybe some community service radio spots can advertise the increased penalties for theft, etc. during this time period? If it makes one low-life think twice, it might be worth it.
