HPP Mailboxes - okedokey - 01-11-2015 I have been researching the idea of adding more mailboxes in HPP. I have been on the waiting list for over 2 years now, and there are probably hundreds of people on the waiting list. The Keaau postmaster said that the postal service will service any boxes HPP adds, but they will not pay for them. He also says he wants new boxes put in a safer location in the area of the office and recreation center. The boxes cost $1000.00 for a bank of 16, which puts that at $62.50 per person. If you add the cost of installation, it would put it around $100.00 per person. Maybe if enough of us on the waiting list are willing to pay the costs, we could get the ball rolling. I currently drive to Pahoa for mail. The gas savings and convenience would certainly be worth $100.00 to me. Let me know what you think. RE: HPP Mailboxes - macuu222 - 01-11-2015 Who needs a mailbox anymore? All my bills are electronic and paychecks are direct deposited. If by chance I absolutely have to receive something in a mailbox I use my brothers home address on the mainland. And if its important..he mails it general delivery here to me. Saves $65.00 a year in mailbox fees. RE: HPP Mailboxes - shockwave rider - 01-11-2015 macuu222: "Who needs a mailbox anymore?" Obviously Okedokey does, along with the other 200+/- people on the mailbox waiting list, or else they wouldn't have posted here. Not everyone makes the same choices or has the same needs as you. RE: HPP Mailboxes - kalakoa - 01-11-2015 Not everyone makes the same choices or has the same needs as you. Puna is a bad choice for many "basic needs" (internet, mail delivery, roads, grocery store). If these are really important, there are better places to live. RE: HPP Mailboxes - Seeb - 01-11-2015 The Hui was working on this for a couple years, I don't know if the project got lost in the B.O.D. change. You can search the forum there was a thread on it. RE: HPP Mailboxes - Tom.Yost - 01-11-2015 I would gladly pay $100 for a mailbox anywhere on Kaloli. I'd even front the cost of an entire bank and installation with an agreement to be paid back as it filled up. RE: HPP Mailboxes - okedokey - 01-11-2015 I spoke with the HPP office manager and she indicated that the postmaster was responsible for installing and paying for the boxes. He indicated otherwise. I think that if there is enough interest, we are going to have to take matters into our own hands. Just trying to get an idea of how many may be interested and not scared off by the cost. RE: HPP Mailboxes - Kapohocat - 01-11-2015 We have to pay for our own boxes, and it is $120/box. If you sell and move, the new person who gets your old mailbox has to pay $120/box. it used to be $12-24 per box per year. RE: HPP Mailboxes - Seeb - 01-11-2015 I think there is enough people that would pay for a box, but it's got to go thru the Hui, RE: HPP Mailboxes - ericlp - 01-11-2015 I always found it interesting how the postal service could get away with not giving everyone a FREE mailbox because the postal service won't deliver or refuse to deliver mail to an address... I thought maybe it was because it was a "private" subdivision, But that isn't really true, how does Leilani estates, a private sub get mail delivered? I don't know how Leilani pulled it off, but one would think if the board had their act together, and all the residents behind it, just maybe you guys could get mail delivered like most households in the USA. I played the waiting game in Keaau for over 4 years. I was told plenty of times, the only way to get a box, was to bring in some goodies for the staff. That was before they added the new boxes. ------------------------- To email me click on Link http://is.gd/QMfVEX |
