Wayne, there are lots of commune type places around here as well as a few hostels(you can call them), where young adults work in exchange for room and board. I do volunteer work in Pahoa a few times a week and will keep an eye out for you. Lots of young folk of varing ages come out here and seem to be having a blast, experiencing a phase of life with few responsibilities. I hope he's well and happy.

I'm hopeful the residents of Puna will be resourceful in suggesting places that Duane may likely hang out or become a guest.
I would suggest printing out his photo and having someone stop by Cinderland Ecovillage. My wife and I visited Cinderland last September and were warmly welcomed. We got the grand tour, narrated with the whole spiel about why it exists, the attraction, etc. We were there for the afternoon and to participate in Taco Tuesday, only to learn that this weekly event had been cancelled until further notice.
If were inclined to want (or need) to disappear for awhile, Cinderland would be an ideal place.
