Another What Is This Plant request - Charlie - 03-30-2015 Hello. I'm a new resident in Puna. I planted a small test garden about a week ago with radishes, beans, lettuce. They all sprouted quickly but this morning, and overnight, a strange grayish translucent type of plant came up among my radishes and was the same size as my week old radish plants. The stems were centered with a spoke-like pattern coming from the center stem area to the edge of the leaf. I've never seen anything like it before. Even more strangely, I ran errands into Hilo and returned a few hours later. Every one had disappeared with no sign of an animal or bird tracks. If anyone has any ideas or answers, I'd love to hear them. Thanks! RE: Another What Is This Plant request - hereonearth - 03-30-2015 Hi Charlie, if they disappeared so quickly I am going to suggest they were mushrooms from your description. I have seen some very unusual types here. I think they hitch rides in bags of soil amendments and only show up due to our tropical weather. RE: Another What Is This Plant request - Charlie - 03-30-2015 Thanks. I added some commercial potting soil to the area where I planted. I also thought they could be some type of mushroom but have never seen any come and go so quickly. |
