Stone walls - PauHana - 04-07-2015 What is the current rate for stone wall, does anyone know the going cubic foot rate? Also who is reliable and does good work? RE: Stone walls - rainyjim - 04-07-2015 I usually don't like to stereotype, but hire a Tongan. Sorry I couldn't have any more specific help, a search using the search bar in the top right will provide you with plenty more info. Aloha mai kakou RE: Stone walls - Guest - 04-08-2015 Probably depends on what kind of stone your going to use and where you want it built. Typically blue rock and common found rock can be put up for 8-12 dollars a square foot. Those really nice lava plates though can get much more expensive, that's if you can get the plates. Tongans do really good work, its not easy. Don't trust the ones who want to just eye-em and go. Personally I like the look of the hidden grout merged of chinking as you lay. Try to be involved as much as possible and shorter days like 6 hours seem to be the most productive, good luck. RE: Stone walls - bananahead - 04-11-2015 hire a Tongan, Fijian, or Samoan, but dont give them all the $$ upfront, or they will slack and it will take forever to complete. Break down the $$ into 4-5 equal payments paid weekly, to keep them coming back more often to work on it (and work faster)... aloha ****************************************************************** save our indigenous and endemic Hawaiian Plants... learn about them, grow them, and plant them on your property, ....instead of all that invasive non-native garbage I see in most yards... aloha RE: Stone walls - EightFingers - 04-14-2015 You have to be firm about the money and when it's to be paid and be able to say "no" to a guy that could snap your neck with his left hand. I had a 120' x 5' wall and four pillars bullt for $7500. The project took about two weeks and they did a good job. What was said about paying too much up front is right. They did ask me for money for supplies and I gave them $1500. Cement and sand were delivered in two days. Don't expect them on Mondays and there won't be much work done on Fridays either. You'll also be picking up pop cans and bento trays so don't be surprised. Another good? thing is they won't ask to use the your bathroom......... |
