Historic Fencing? (Swords) - feperry - 04-26-2015

I'm looking for people interested in historic fencing. My own interests lie in 19th century dueling sabre and 16th century rapier - though I also do 18th century small sword and epee. Is anyone interested?

Frank

Make sure your fence when installed is well treated
or it may rust out in a few short years.

Used to spar sword and dagger. There is not HACA or even SCA around that I know of. The range of martial arts is kind of limited on the east side.

One of the Hilo dance studios has had fencing classes, I used to know someone who took them for years until they left for college, so there is at least somewhat of a fencing community here. I think it was at Center stage. I would contact them and see if they have any leads.

There is an SCA group but they are not into the sort of fencing that attracts me. They are interested in earlier time periods and not into Baroque or 19th century.

There is a sport fencing group that meets in Hilo and Mt View. I will try and connect with them to see if anyone there wants to do something besides foil and sport sabre. I won't be on the island for another month and am trying to find people in advance.

I know of them through their Facebook page. It's Hawaii Island Fencing Association. The meet twice a week but I'm not sure of the details beyond what is on Facebook. There's a gym in Mt View and some school just above downtown Hilo where they meet. They have a tournament on June 6th. You will likely see me there looking to drum up interest in HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts).
