Orchidland Conflict - Amrita - 05-01-2015 Just got an email and also a mailing of a second OCLA group "Orchidland Neighbors." It appears a disgruntled group of ousted former board members against the current board yet trying to act as if inclusive of all ("we hope to have the support of OCLA). They want to build a new community center and fund raise but not use the lot already designated at 36th and OL blvd. I am confused as to whom I should support. Would appreciate informed input from other punaweb members. Mahalo RE: Orchidland Conflict - kalakoa - 05-02-2015 There's some in every subdivision... RE: Orchidland Conflict - terracore - 05-02-2015 I didn't get the email or receive the letter yet but my understanding is that the Orchidland road association's only legal purpose is to administer the road projects. I understand that they have a lot designated for a community center but that is separate business and funding from the road association charter. While I support the community center so long as it isn't in my backyard, it SHOULD be administered by some other group than the road association. And if they can't get along, there is nothing wrong with having TWO community centers. Orchidland is a big subdivision. Though I would hope they are spread out to better serve the residents and aren't located next to each other to make bickering easier. RE: Orchidland Conflict - kalakoa - 05-02-2015 I support the community center so long as it isn't in my backyard Serious question: where can anything be built so that it's not in someone's back yard? This is probably the biggest problem with the "platted for maximum sellable lots" subdivisions. RE: Orchidland Conflict - rainyjim - 05-02-2015 Well they could purchase the surrounding lots for 'use' as grounds for the community center. Like some flat cleared land for maybe like dogs or kids to run around on, I hear some people do that... RE: Orchidland Conflict - slandry808 - 05-05-2015 Aloha Orchidland Neighbors. I'd like to keep this conversation going and get as many opinions/comments as possible with your thoughts of our community lot and what might be developed on that lot. I for one would like to see a legally plotted and permitted design on it. Not a tarp and a container just plopped there. What would you folks like to see on our community lot? Mahalo RE: Orchidland Conflict - Clayjacks - 05-05-2015 Wild orchids? RE: Orchidland Conflict - terracore - 05-05-2015 "What would you folks like to see on our community lot?" Nothing is free. We could post a huge list of things we WANT but that seems kind of pointless without a budget to work with. Nanawale has a pool, BBQ and picnic areas, playground, etc. Ainaloa has a playground and longhouse etc. For me, I would be happy with an empty lot with a container and tarp if there was some way to GET MY MAIL. I don't know how long the wait list is for the OLE mailboxes but I've been on it for 3 years. To me, critical infrastructure like mail delivery and broadband internet service is much more important than playgrounds (my child is grown and gone), pools (I don't swim where people pee), public BBQ (I have a BBQ that doesn't have somebody's else's moldy mystery glaze all over it), meeting facilities (seems like there are plenty of those that sit empty 90% of the time). I guess my point is that Orchidland doesn't really NEED a community center. We need more basic things like mail delivery/pickup and broadband internet. Or what about water spigots? Maybe instead of investing our resources into a community center that 99% of us will never use, we can focus on the basics. I vote for water spigots, broadband internet to my house, and mail. Find a way to cram that into a community center and you have my vote. ETA: I drive from OLE to Ainaloa's community center all the time. To dump my mail into their mail box. RE: Orchidland Conflict - kalakoa - 05-05-2015 critical infrastructure like mail delivery and broadband internet service is much more important It's encouraging to see others take this view. Infrastructure is also more important than bickering about who controls the board, or another $20M bond debt for a park, or a Keaau Master Plan .... Why settle for 3rd when you could hit a home run ya know. |
