Naniloa Hotel to Become DoubleTree by Hilton - opihikao - 05-14-2015 Great news! FYI*: (*Snipped - More at link) http://www.bizjournals.com/pacific/news/2015/05/14/hilo-naniloa-hotel-to-be-rebranded-as-doubletree.html?ana=fbk The Hilo Naniloa Hotel and Golf Club will reopen later this year as the newly-rebranded DoubleTree by Hilton as part of a $16 million renovation of the iconic hotel on the Big Island of Hawaii, one of the owners told PBN Thursday. RE: Naniloa Hotel to Become DoubleTree by Hilton - Guest - 05-14-2015 Awesome news! Can't wait to see the renovations or the changes to the golf course that may come. Really if this Hilton can thrive then maybe like kona, tourists will have a few more options to staying here on the hilo side. Being Hilton owned and all, we should be able to sell it easier to say the Asian market where they don't like to stay in shacks. If occupancy is full or high maybe other hotels could follow? Sure would be nice for many hard working locals here in puna to not have to take those long daily bus trips to kona and back for work too. RE: Naniloa Hotel to Become DoubleTree by Hilton - terracore - 05-14-2015 This is the best news since the Hilo Hawaiian hotel renovation. RE: Naniloa Hotel to Become DoubleTree by Hilton - macuu222 - 05-14-2015 Finally a three star hotel! RE: Naniloa Hotel to Become DoubleTree by Hilton - PaulW - 05-14-2015 At last somewhere to have those Astronomy conferences! RE: Naniloa Hotel to Become DoubleTree by Hilton - opihikao - 05-14-2015 quote:LMAO! Mahalo for the levity, PaulW. (Still giggling...[]) This is SO good for us! Mahalo to our own, Mr. Ed Olson! Thank God we'll have a decent hotel to offer our visitors, and ourselves for a "staycation". The renderings are quite lovely. Hopefully, this will be the "turn" Banyan Drive needs. It's so beautiful in that area, and cleaning it up (golf course needs serious work, just saying), will be so good for our local economy. With Volcano National Park, Mauna Kea, and everything in between, the cruise ships may offer additional income for the hotels and all surrounding areas. In the old days, the Slim Holt Tours/Tradewind Tours/Tauck Tour days, this island offered tours no other island could. I am so hopeful that with the resurrection of the Naniloa, we will see an upswing in our economy, which also gives for better attitude, and pride of our Hawai'i island, Moku o Keawe. I hope Mr. Ken Fujiyama realizes the damage he has done, not just at this hotel, but Volcano House, Nani Mau Gardens, and whatever else he delved into. Very thankful for the likes of Mr. Olson, and may Akua bless him for his continued efforts. JMO. It doesn't need dozens of mega resort hotels. Remodeling under new ownership is a great step for the area. Now, Uncle Billy's? There has been a lot of cleaning up. It does seem to be taking forever but sidewalks all along Kamehameha drive were long overdue and you can see they are a hit with the cruise ship tourists, probably more if the county gets sidewalks to the pier from the Banyon intersection. Improvements, not developments, keep the old Hawaii feel, that is the way to go. "Aloha also means goodbye. Aloha!" RE: Naniloa Hotel to Become DoubleTree by Hilton - TomK - 05-14-2015 Have they provided an EIS? How is the military involved? It's the perfect location to spot aircraft landing at the airport. Spy agencies must be involved. Are the aircraft carrying secret spy satellites? Surely it'd be better to demolish the whole building and return the land to its original state. But it'll be good for some young locals to get low wages and rely on tips. Can they launch satellites from the top of the hotel? It has some satellite dishes so they must have seen planes going missing and all the Soviets out there. It might mean we can use the moon but it's beyond third quarter so who knows where the mass and light will go? Perhaps we can reflect the light of Mars instead. JMO |
