Elephant Grass Removal - MsBoejangles - 07-10-2015 Does anyone know the best non-pesticide way to remove elephant grass? I've pickaxed it up and torched it and it just grows back. I'm open to using treatments on it, just not pesticides. Mahalo~ RE: Elephant Grass Removal - kalakoa - 07-10-2015 Mow it down to the ground, cover with a big piece of weedcloth (sold by the roll at Depot, or by the piece at Rudy's). Weigh the cloth down with rocks, or just cover it with several inches of fresh mulch and plant new groundcover. Make sure there's a wide margin (couple of feet) all around the edges so the old weeds don't escape. RE: Elephant Grass Removal - Lee M-S - 07-11-2015 We covered a mowed-down clump with an above-ground swimming pool. Sucker regrew and pushed up on the bottom of the pool. But not very much, and I think it's dead now, after a year. ><(((*< ... ><(("< ... ><('< ... >o> RE: Elephant Grass Removal - Hawaii Bound - 07-11-2015 I know you already said you used pick as but that's what I use. I use a scythe like tool to cut it down to size. Then I use the pick axe to dig it all out. As long as you do not leave anything behind it will not come back. I had an entire yard of it at one time and now not a single sign that it ever existed now. RE: Elephant Grass Removal - ericlp - 07-12-2015 you have to use a pick to stick it in the root ball and pry the root ball out, that sucker won't come back after that. I just hack it down with a machete first. If you don't get the root it will just keep coming back, I think I got a clump of it in my yard that I frequently mow, it always comes back but really weak and I just keep mowing it. One day I'll get the shovel and pop out the root. RE: Elephant Grass Removal - emilylee - 07-17-2015 Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end. For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. When I was a child, I thought like a child; when I became and adult, I put an end to childish ways. For now we see in mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love. http://www.2maplestory.com/ http://www.rsgpfast.com http://www.fifacoins2u.com RE: Elephant Grass Removal - Guest - 08-12-2015 I had a few stands of this stuff and it is an aggressive and tough weed. I wacked it down with a machete, sprayed some roundup on it then covered it with black plastic for 3 months. The roundup was probably overkill, but I wanted it dead. Only works for clumps, or as much plastic as you have on hand. --------------------------- You can't fix Samsara. RE: Elephant Grass Removal - ElysianWort - 08-13-2015 Hey MsBoejangles: I'm guessing you're anti-round-up? Have you considered a natural method of herbicide? You can find a concentrated horticultural vinegar that will take out those weeds. Put some of that vinegar on the clump after its been weedwacked then cover it with thick black plastic. I doubt you'll see the elephant grass again. P.s. just cutting it and putting plastic over it isn't going to work. That root corm survives and the elephant grass comes out through the plastic sometimes. RE: Elephant Grass Removal - rainyjim - 08-13-2015 Pesticides encompass herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, among others. Insecticides kill insects Herbicides kill weeds Pesticides is a broader term that could refer to any of the above. Try not to spead misinformation. RE: Elephant Grass Removal - rainyjim - 08-13-2015 Vinegar is more toxic than round-up. |
