Bitten by spider or ?? - kimo wires - 07-19-2015

The wife got bitten under the chin/neck area while sleeping and woke up saying it hurt.
Now 48 hours later , she scratched it, and it is an open sore. doesn't look infected but looks like a small ulcer that could become infected, about 1/2 inch long and 1/4inch wide. I think it was a spider. I know we have mediterranean recluse spiders here but don't know for sure what it was. It wasn't a centipede bite, I know what those look like, two fang holes.
I'm worried about her getting an infection.

Anyone have experience with this ? Advise please, Mahalo

Found this. We have always had these around the house. Didn't know they could bite.

One Thing I can always be sure of is that things will never go as expected.

I've heard that crab spider bites can erode flesh, leaving depressed areas. I couldn't find anything about this in a quick google search, though.

We have brown widows too. Tiny lil things. Got but on my leg once by one and it turned necrotic.

With all this super steamy weather, might also be beginning stage of ringworm. Which can seemingly appear out of nowhere and look like a bite as first. Just in case, my .02 would be to keep it washed and dry but don't touch it and touch something else. This includes sharing towels.

Does it feel like a burn?
Could be a red-black false blister beetle.

They don't bite but their skin contains an acid that makes blisters about the size you said if you accidentally crush them, say under your arm or chin. They come to light at night.

Here's a good photo of one: http://fireflyforest.net/firefly/2009/07/08/red-black-false-blister-beetle/

I treat the blisters like a burn with aloe and antibiotic ointment if necessary.

Hadn't considered ringworm fungus. It looks kinda like it. Thanks Pog.

Watch for any sign of redness/infection. Years ago, got bit one Sunday. Tuesday I went to Dr, got antibiotic prescription. That Friday was my first dental appointment in Hilo, my hand was center of attention with one Dentist recommending that my next stop ought to be the ER as it looked like I could lose my hand or worse. Bad enough an Orthopaedic was called in to take care of it. Had a good sized hole in back of my hand for several weeks which eventually healed totally. Was told it was likely a spider bite.
