Looking for recommendations on where to purchase a riding mower. I know of different places that sell them - but looking more for recommendations on where to buy based on experience. Thank you!

No " press on" wheels on the rear drive, solid mower deck, as that is where the most abuse goes, and a lot of them are pretty thin. Look for good steel plate type mower decks found on the commercial grade Husqvarna, etc. Home Depot sells the Husqvarna riding mower, but has the stamped metal mower deck, a cheaper version to give a "value" price to the unknowing buyer.

We have a Home Depot John Deere, and I agree with what SBH says. With Puna's rocky soil, their discount mower beds just don't stand up. A replacement bed ordered online from a non- Home Depot source has survived tons of abuse and kept on mowing.

I just buy the cheapest push lawn mower with no extended warrantee. They last about 5 years. Then I get another one. Been 15 years and still on mower #3 and payed about $600.00 so far. Still have a couple more lawn mowers to go before I come close to the price of a riding mower.

I have an ancient Craftsman that came with the house when we bought about 5 years ago. The seller was going back to the mainland after 7 years here, and sure didn't want to ship it back. Had a carb problem right away and had to order a new needle valve from the mainland. Fixed that, and it's still limping along.

I totally agree with the statements that the Home Depot John Deere mowers, are crap. Even told so by the parts man at the dealership.
It rusted thru within 2 years (live close to water, but stored in shed).
Just by from Sears since you can get the lifetime warranties. Really, you can keep renewing it. If your mower is too far gone, they will give you a new one. I believe rust is not covered...
Just wait for them to go on sale, go on clearance, etc.

I'm curious if you don't mind, where did you order it from and approximate cost? My craftsman deck has rusted through and needs replaced, and about to junk it if I can't find a reasonable replacement that isn't half the cost of a new mower....
