I saw a corn gluten weed blocker in my organic garden catalog. It is said to inhibit weed root formation. My question to you all can I use it around my property to keep abiza from starting? I do realize it will stop all growth where i put the stuff. thaks

First off there is no gluten in corn.
Next, you didn't include any information about the chemical you are referring to? Whats the active ingredient? Whats the brand name?

Hi Ronni,
I would be surprised if the weed blocker will work here in Puna simply due to so much rain. But I have not tried it here. I have used this in Southern California before, with reasonable success. But to prevent albizia? Hmmm, I kind of doubt it.

I found the organic weed blocker in peaceful vally catalog. It just says corn gluten weed blocker pre-emergent weed suppressant.
If I put it around the area where I plan to put a fence next year then the area would be cleared when I get fence money.

Corn gluten does one thing and one thing only. It prevents new seeds (weed seeds, tomato seeds, etc,) from germinating. It does not inhibit weed root formation nor will it have any effect on existing weeds.
I wouldn't waste my money on it unless you have a very small yard that is already pretty much free of weeds.
Albizia tree seedlings are not really that much of a problem to control. Just go out in your yard with a shovel every month or so and dig them out. If there are Albizia trees in your area, there is no way you are going to prevent them from starting in your yard.

If there are Albizia trees in your area, there is no way you are going to prevent them from starting in your yard.
Dense groundcover (peanutgrass is nice) will prevent most foreign starts.

It must be super dense to keep the weeds down but I haven't managed to get it thick enough. my patch gets over run with some running leagume vines.

there is a corn something or other weed block at Home Depot, might be the same thing.
Our latest weed blocking technique is to put down sheet mulch (flattened cardboard boxes), then synthetic weedblock on top, then gravel to hold it all down.
Then the weeds creep across to form a dense mat.
