Unplugged Nation on fyi - b_a - 07-30-2015 Anyone watch the "reality" show last night filmed in Puna? http://www.fyi.tv/shows/unplugged-nation/videos/hawaiian-dream We are everywhere... RE: Unplugged Nation on fyi - lquade - 07-30-2015 thanks for the link, that was fun, hadn't heard of that show. wonder how they would have done in the rain during one of our mini monsoons?. seem like nice folk... RE: Unplugged Nation on fyi - benthudd - 07-30-2015 Thanks for the link! Where is the Jungle House anyway? I thought the chicken coop was interesting but shouldn't it be off the ground to get away from predators? RE: Unplugged Nation on fyi - SuperGu - 07-31-2015 The show was great. Thanks for the post. The coqui scare was funny. RE: Unplugged Nation on fyi - lavarat - 07-31-2015 Lava came within about 100 feet from the blue house (the first house shown) in Kalapana Gardens in August 2010. http://hvo.wr.usgs.gov/multimedia/archive/2010/Aug/20100903_1051_torr_A_L.jpg right corner http://hvo.wr.usgs.gov/multimedia/archive/2010/Aug/20100806_Coast_annotated2_L.jpg mid-upper http://hvo.wr.usgs.gov/multimedia/archive/2010/Aug/20100806_0816_torr_1_L.jpg RE: Unplugged Nation on fyi - dmbwest - 07-31-2015 aloha lavarat ! pog RE: Unplugged Nation on fyi - Chunkster - 07-31-2015 I didn't hear them mention the quality of the public schools or the high cost of the multitude of food and personal items the family will not be able to produce on their three acres. I had to giggle when wifey announced that she absolutely had to have a dishwasher. How easily could the dad could make some cash with his trade of stone counter top finishing? There should be potential as those are popular items hereabouts. Overall, it was pretty realistic and enjoyable. RE: Unplugged Nation on fyi - ericlp - 07-31-2015 Personally, they didn't seem very cut out for this life. I wonder if they got the house, and if so, I wonder how long they made it in FF? Would be interesting if they had a follow up 3 years later on them. RE: Unplugged Nation on fyi - pahoated - 07-31-2015 More fake reality TV. It was also a cliche of the time worn ecstasy to agony cycle many malihini experience, showing only the ecstasy phase. Every. Person. Comes. To. Hawaii. With. A. Dream. Every dream begins with the ecstasy phase. 90% of those dreams suck cesspool sludge. Seven move on island, five move off island, every day. Day after day, year in, year out. Been that way for decades, nothing happening to change that. The malihini transitory traffic is actually a big part of the core economy and employs many people in many areas. Malihini need stuff moved to the island, they need stuff moved off when they leave. Malihini build homes, malihini abandon homes. Malihini will insist they are not just extended stay tourists, become insulted if somebody informs them what they are, then in a year or two, they leave, some by choice, most by circumstance. After awhile, the pattern gets boring, and seeing the next bright beaming face of another malihini headed towards meltdown becomes tiresome, a TV rerun already watched a thousand times. Each one, just one of many thousands of malihini meltdown stories on Fantasy Island. That would be the more entertaining fake reality TV show, showing malihini in their meltdown phase. "Aloha also means goodbye. Aloha!" RE: Unplugged Nation on fyi - benthudd - 07-31-2015 You are a great writer pahoated. Cynical- - but a great writer! |
