Crazy drivers on Dirt roads - kimo wires - 09-02-2015

Orchidland BOD has done a good job of regrading the side roads.
We used to get very little traffic when the road was bad and people drove slow.
Now that its relatively smooth people are driving way too fast and traffic has increased a lot.
I liked it better when the road was all Kapakai.

Stop complaining and PAVE the next road over from you... That will solve your issue.

RE: Crazy drivers on Dirt roads - kimo wires - 09-02-2015

I wish they would pave 40th.

It won't happen though. I think the folks up there don't want that because it would create a good alternate route to Hwy 11 and turn it into a Highway.

Side roads will never get paved.

I thought I could start a discussion and raise awareness.
Somebody is going to hit someone exiting their driveway or run over someone.

I was out there mowing one day and didn't hear a truck coming up behind me because of the noise from the mower. He was doing about 50,
It's a one lane road and not much shoulder.
Moron nearly ran over me. I was pissed.

34th is to be paved to create an alternate route as part of the 130 widening, at least according to the latest documentation from five years ago.

If they try to pave 40th, I'll be one of the people chaining myself to something to keep it from happening. NIMBY.

RE: Crazy drivers on Dirt roads - kimo wires - 09-02-2015

I don't blame you. If I lived on 40th I wouldn't want it either.

I Just want people to slow down.
It's so disrespectful to neighbors to speed down a road that should be driven the speed limit of 15mph. Especially when its dry and dusty. The faster you go the more dust gets airborne and its especially bad if you live on the Mauka side where homes are downwind of the road.

And Its dangerous. I've had people pull out of their driveways without stopping lots of times. If I had been speeding I would have t-boned one of them by now.

Out on Opihikao road, they use palm fronds for speed bumps. Just one more use for the most versatile tree ever. I was laughing all the way to the ocean.

In coastal Mexico and parts of the Caribbean people tie big old marine ropes between two palms at ground level for instant speed bumps, often painted white so people see them at night. You slow down for them, but they won't trash your suspension if you hit one fast.

How do they make speedbumps out of palm fronds?

We're all here, because we're not all there!

Palm frond speed bumps are as simple as can be. Lay them across the road, 1 or 2 depending on length of fronds & width of the road. Opihkao Road has a couple of 10 mph sections with sharp curves & trees right up to the pavement, as well as children at play. And fruit stands. The fronds effectively slow traffic for any of those situations.

There's also a psychedelic sign near one curve that says something like "Try go 25, eh?"
